Elgtn 6303 RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO THURSDAY, MARCH 31, 1927. ‘iAim To Improve ' I North Yonge Street I A meeting was held in Richmond Hill, Ontario, on Thursday evening of last week by representatives of the districts along Yonge Street and it was decided to form 'an association for the improvement of Yonge Street and districts, and a meeting will be held in the Council room (Lorne Hall) Richmond Hill, on Thursday, April 14th, 1927, at eight pm. for the pur- pose of organizing an association, which will have for its objects, the Improvements of Yonge Street and District. It was the unanimous opinion of those present that an era of pros- perity 'and progress was in store for us and it was felt that we should co- operate and work together to obtain the needed improvements, to work out o 1' problems and to unite in mak- ing onge Street and district one of the finest in Ontario. It was also felt that now was the opportune time for organization and that no time should be lost in seeking our require- ments. Some of the improvements discuss- ed Were:â€"High level bridge at York Mills; Sidewalks on Yonge Street from Mulock’s to Toronto; ’Lighting of Yonge Street; Protection in the change of gauge of T. T. 0.; Traffic regulations, such as prohibiting pedes- trians from using the roadway where a sidewalk is provided. The entering and leaving of T. T. C. cars from side and not from roadway; the beau- tifying of Yonge Street anddistrict; It was the unanimous opinion of those present that the need was urg- ent and that no time should be lost in seeking to remedy the defects. By next year, unless the York Mills bridge is built, Yonge Street will be the only highway entering Toronto that will not have high level approa- ches and it was felt that it was the duty of every citizen of York Coun- ty to assist in the work of obtaining the York Mills ’Bridge and by so doâ€" ing place Yonge Street on an equal footing with the otherA districts. There is no part of Ontario that has the natural requirements for progress that we have and all that we require is to obtain the needed im- provements and we will have Pro- gress, Prosperity and Developement, not equalled by any other district. It is hoped thet every district will be well represented at the organization meeting on April 14th. Mayor J. M .Walton, of Aurora, was appointed Chairman and J. Har- ry Naughton, of Elgin Mills, Secre- tary of the meeting. Wives of local curlens better ge‘; started at the annual housecleaning; at once, before the men get out of the sweeping habit. Sap’s running; spring is here. Beware of to-morrow. The prac~ tical joker will be on the rampage. Richmond Hill might wellrhave a “paint up day.” The young: £011; on the farm should remember that many of th'em freâ€" quently leave hard work on the farm for harder work and less favorable environment. ' When ice and snow lie deep on corner lawns no harm can be done in crossing them, but at this season of the year, when the ground is soft, people should not have to be told to remain on the sidewalk. The large centres have not all of the advantages over the rural dis- tricts and smaller towns. Montreal now has 600 cases of typhoid fever, due, it is said, to impure milk and other unsanitary conditions. Chicken‘ thieves are busy again in Markham township. Recently the roost-raiders visited the pens on the farms of Harold Harper and Wm. Brillinger, just north of Unionville on the sixth concession, and carried away nearly all their fowl. Al- though the theft occurred last week end no trace of the intruders has been found. One of these farmers has two good watch dogs on the place, and it seems strange that they did not give any alarm. With the sin- gle exception of Clark Johnston, a neighbor, all the farmers in the 10- cality have suffered at one time or another from these night prowlers Ion chicken coops. “Ingersoll ta); rate has been fixed for the year at 45 mills. “Oshaan is anticipating a big build- ing boom this yearâ€"Included in which axe several apartment houses General News and Views mgg The annual report of the Ontario Provincial Police tabled in the legis- lature on Thursday shows conditions throughout the province to have been good, on the Whole, during the year. Gen. V. A. S. Williams, commission- er, reports to Attorney-General Price that “the public peace and order have been very little disturbed with ex- ception of a spasmodic outbreak of banditry generally isolated and not continuous. The professional crook and law-breaker has given this prov- ince a wide berth.” The home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fowler, 779 Pape Avenue, Toronto, was the scene of a pretty wedding on Wednesday, March 23, when Kathleen and a skating rink Fanny, eldest daughter of .Mr. and Mrs. Fowler, was united in marriage to Garnet O. Kefl‘er, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Kefl‘er of Maple, Ontario. Rev. W. E. Hodgson, B. A. B. Th., officiated. The bride was given away by her brother Mr. Alâ€" fred Fowler, and looked charming in blue crepe de chine dress with silver trimmings, her bouquet was of Sweetheart roses, lily of the valley and maidens fern. The bridesmaid, Edith Fowler, sister of the bride, was gowned in a peach crepe de chine dress. She carried a bouquet of ivaeetheart roses. N. A. efi‘er a ‘brother of the bridegroom was best ‘man. The wedding march was play- ed by Mr. Robert Abbot of Toronto. l After the wedding dinner was ser- ved. Amid showers of confetti and good wishes the bride and groom left for a motor trip to, Rochester, New York, Detroit and other points: The bride wore a rosewood and sand dress and a rose hat. Upon their return they will reside_in Edgeley, Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Ontario, Mr. R Ontario, Mr. N. Ontario, Mr. an‘ ADDRESS COMMUNICATIONS TO WILFRED R. DEAN Thornhill CLE‘VER YOUNG ACADIAN Hon.
