They desire only lthe light colored varieties, as the darker shade imparts a browner col- or to the beer, which it is claimed, makes it less saleable. The amount, demanded for brewing purposes this fall will be at least 100,000 bushels. It is rumored that there will be a great demand for barley now that. the new liquor bill is coming in. Brew- ers are undoubtedly anticipating an immense increase in the sale of beer “Make Markham Memorable” is the slogan the committee in charge of arrangements for the 12th of July celebration have adopted and from advice received the 12th July, 1927, will be an historical one for Markham. In Stouffville the Wednesday half holiday is effective only in the sum- me months. During the summer the sto es close Wednesday afternoon and open three nights a week. Vincent Baker who recently moved from Whitchurch Township to‘a fern". immediately east of Claremont lost three goofl cattle since his removal. The animals got away from the prem7 ises and strayed onto the railwav track, where they unfortuntely came into contact with a train. Now that the good weather is here and our thoughts naturally turn to baseball it seems time some action was taken to improve the ball park. It should be fixed and whoever takes the lead in this commendable move- ment will be rewarded by the sincere thanks and affection of the fans and players. RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO THURSDAY, APRIL 14, 1927. 'Yes, it’s time to start fixing the garden, but a local resident says it’s not much encouragement to fix things up if the dogs tear around all the time in your flower beds. Can nothing be done? With hopes of solving the probâ€" lem of the “back-seat driver,” a British automobile manufacturer has introduced a car with the rear seat backed up against the front one. Passengers in the rear seat are snar- ed the distraction of driving. which snoil motoring for some neople. Windows are cut in the rear of the car to give an edequate View of the fleet- ing' landscape. Farmers 05 Algqma will appeal to the government for relief from the wolf menace in regard to sheet) rais- ing and will ask that remuneration be made when sheen are killed bv wolves as is the case when dogs do the dam- age. A bald-headed eagle, an unusual visitor for this section of the prov- ince, was shot at the quarries. three miles north of Georgetown. It is a splendid specimen. and measures nine feet from tip to tip of its wings. A Matchedash man has a Buff 0r- pington pullet that recently laid an egg measuring 7 and a quarter by 9 and a half inches and weighing 6 and one-half ounces. The auction sales of farm stock and implements are about over for the season, and generally speaking good prices have been realized by the ownâ€" ers. The value of property which changes hands in this way each win- ter in this district amounts to many thousands of dollars. ‘ The Peace Bridge Brewery Co., Limited of Bridgeburg has been form- ed with Coi. John A. Currie, M.P.P. as president. It is assuredly an attrac- tive name for a brewery. Destructive criticism is often only a sign of bad manners. It is Worthy of note that Babe Ruth the greatest of baseball attractions, receives an annual salary' as large as that of the president of the Unit- ed States. And now we require only the peep- ing tulips and the annual increase in the price of gasoline to convince us that summer is just around the com- er. I Rockfeller, who just celebrated the 87th anniversary of his birth, advises people not to worry if they desire to live long. That’s splendid doctrineâ€" for Rockerfeller. The long talked of market for the east end of the city is shortly to be- come a realty when a market will be opened at the corner of Victoria Park and Danforth Road, East York Town- ship. A very suitable lot one hund- red feet square has been secured from the Ford Motor Company at a nomin- al rental and will be a very convenient locfition. At a meeting of the York County Market Committee held in Toronto on Monday the question of a suitable building was discussed and after the lot is put in shape tenders will be cal- led for. The o‘pening of this new market is the out growth of the spl- endid success of the North York Mar- ket at the northerly limits of the city. The market will be convenient to both producers and consumers and should prove a great convenience to the peo- ple of the east end. The following are members of the York County Market Committee whose efforts this year are proving fruitful of very ex- cellent results;â€"W. C. Gohn, Mark- ham, chairman; George B.
