The members of the Newmarket Bowling Club had a Point Tourna- ment recently and it proved very in- teresting. Each individual counted for himself and there was only one bowl on each rink at a time but those that counted had to be within three rings. The smallest ring counted three, the next two and the larger ring one. All passed from rink to rink. He finally caught up to the Bohemians at Norway Bay and get from them $40, plus costs of $10. In counting out the money one of the women of the party handed Scott $45, saying “there’s the fifty dollars.†Counting the money, he found a shortâ€" age of $35, but the count being made on the spot the other five was not long in forthcoming. The same gyp- sies, after operating in Renfrew. also played a like game on the other side of the Ottawa, and j Quebec officer was after them. The last Chief Scott saw of the gang they were in the new goal at Campbells Bay. THE HORSE “Feed me, water and care for me, and when the day's work is done provide me with shelter, :1 clean, dry bed, and a stall wide enough for me to lie down in comfort. Talk to me; Your voice often means as much to me as the reins. Pet me sometimes that I may ser~ ve you more gladly and learn to love you. “Do not jerk the reins, and do not whip me when going up hill. Never strike, beat or kick me when I do not under- stand what you want, but give me a chance to undertand you. Watch me if I fail to do your hiding; see if some- thing is not wrong with my harness or feet. “Examine my teeth when I do not eat, I may have an 111. cerated tooth, and that, you know, is very painful. Do not tie my head in an unnatural position or take away my best defence against flies and mosquitoes by cutting off my tail. And' finally, oh, my master, when my useful strength is gone, do not turn me out to starve or freeze or sell me to some cruel owner to be slowly tortured and starved to death; but do thou, my master, take my life in the kindest way and your God will reward you here and hereafter. You will not consider me irreverent if I ask this in the name of Him who was born in a stable.†‘3'“ “mg: 0 13.0.} NEW PREMIER Another school year is at hand and again this store is headquarters for school sup- plies of all kind.
