SEPTEMBER 15, 1927 | A Record W. W. Woods, of Woodbridge, has 'a bred-toJay Barred Rock pullet, ‘hatched on May 15th, and on Friday, iSeptember 2nd, laid her first egg, :1 inormal sized one at that, and has ‘since continued to function right ialong. This figures 'out exactly three months and eighteen days, and local ,and outside experts think that the per- iformance of the Woodbridge pullet iconstitutes a new record among the lBa’rred Rock or any other breeds. i In the pony breeding classes, anl ‘outstanding Winner is G. A. M. Davi_‘ son, of Unionville, who with White- gate Emblem, won the champion- ship and grand championship, to- gether with the open class for all harness stallions. He won first and second for 2 year old fillies, Marigold land Brittania, with junior champion- !ship and reserve_ grand championship {for Marigold, and first for anl for :1927. In the harness horses and pairs Mr. Davison was equally successful, .winning the championship for har~ ness pony and Canadian pony. GENERAL NEWS AND VIEWS G. A. M. Davison Won Many Prizes At Ex. Some time records have been made by York County farmers and breed- ers at the Canadian National Exhi- bition in horses and cattle, not to mention other live stock classes. Armistice Week ' It was decided at a well attended meeting of the North York branch of ithe Candian Legion, to hold an Arm- ‘istice Week, commencing Novemâ€" 'ber 6th. A former president of the Mark- ham Fair and a member of the direc- torate of the Canadian National Ex- hibition, Mr. Davison is keenly alive to the need of maintaining a high standard in the breeding and develop- ment of Candian horses and ponies. Barn Burned Fire from some unknown cause which broke out in the extensive barns and outbuildings of Warren G. Wilson, on the Markham and Scar- boro townline, on Wednesday last, ut- terly destroyed the big bank barn and adjoining buildings, together with all the season’s crop from 150 acres, en- ltailing a loss estimated anywhere from $12,000 to 815.000. The fire, a spectacular one, lit up the’ countryside for miles around, and scores of neighâ€" bors, together with the Unionville Volunteer Fire Brigade did every- thing possible to stay the progress of the flames and save the residence, which they were successful in doing. ‘Mr. Wilson had practically finished drawing in the season’s crop, which, Itogether with a quantity of fowl, hogs and implements, went up in Ismoke. J. P. Griffin. secretary-treasurer of the Ontario Milk and Cream Produc- ers’ Association, said to-day that the present prices of milk which went into effect on September 1 will be retained until May 1 next, unless un- foreseen conditions arise. The price on September 1 was raised to the producer from $1.95 per eight-gallon can to $2.20. This, in turn, resulted in the increase in the retail price of 15 instead of 16 pint tickets for a. dollar. This latter has been the winter price in all the big centres of .Ontario for the lats three years. -,.â€"~â€"__._.___ Farm House Destroyed The farm house of G. Near, on the third concession of Whitchurch, was destroyed by fire this week. Part of the furniture was saved. The blaze is thought to have been started by a threshing engine. The Aurora fire truck was rushed to the fire, but was unable to cope with the flames, which had gained great headway. The loss will amount to about $4,000. son early age who was The death Woodbridge Resident Winter Prices th of Mrs. Jessie Steven- on Thursday last at the of 46 years, removes one very Widely known and asses highly respected. Ped'ar Fined A case came before the police mag- istrate at Cobourg which effects the Country merchants. A man was sell- ing tea from house to house and claimed to be a manufacturer, be- cause he blended tea, and a manufact- urer is exempt by law. The magist- ‘rate took a sensible View of the case ‘and registered a stiff fine.
