Dr. C. E. Hill M.O.H. for the township, reported that 1,250 school . children had Been vaccinated, and ‘of this number some 1,100 were new vaccinations. He said that all arms had been dressed once, and urged that all children who have not received their certificates for suc- cessful vaccination, visit the munici- pal Hall next Saturday morning at nine o’clock, where he will‘be in atten- dance and look after their needs. On Wednesday afternoon, between the hours of four and five o’clock, in the nurse’s office in the Municipal Building, a clinic was established and those who have not received their final certificates may do so and have their arms examined. The last case of smallpox was reâ€" ported Iast Thursday, and Dr. Hill is of the opinion that the disease has been well checked. He said that; the medical authorities are still vigilant, and the least suspicious case is at once attended to. Fumigate Schools \ Fumigation in the various schools Will take place during the Christmas holidays. At the close of the meet- ing- Dr. Hill declared that it was now the duty of all teachers to see that no pupil entered the school, unless he could produce the legal certificate of successful vaccination. Of all the arms vaccinated at Lansing School, only three had to be re vaccinated. It is expected that Ex-Reeve Hicks will oppose Reeve Anderson and the popularity and confidence which the Ex-Reeve enjoys will make him a very strong contender for the honors. James Muirhead, 1st Deputyâ€"Reeve signified his intention of running a- nother year, and stated that he thou- ght the present council had served the municipality to the best of its ability. Dr. E. J. Hambly, 2nd Deputy- Reeve, will again contest that seat, and R. Phillips, 3rd Deputy-Reeve, will seek another term. J. C. Bales, councillor, will also be in the field. Several other candidates are plann- ing to let their names go before the people and when election day comes round thefe will be no scarcity of can- didates seeking election in all offices. Ex-Reeve Hicks :1 Probable Candidate Following the regular meeting of the North York Council on Monday all the members signified their intention of seeking re-election. North York Council To Seek Re«EItcti0n Reeve W. W. Anderson, shortly af- ter the business had been concluded, started the ball rolling, by saying that he was going to run for re-election. He thanked all his colleagues in the council for their work during the year, and declared that no more zealous council ever served North York Town- ship. He also thanked the various de- partments connected with the munici- pality for the excellent manner in which they had carried on business. Smallpox Epidemic Is Now Abating In N. I» CHRISTMAS CAKES The Christmas cake is usually pre- pared only once a year, and then in a ‘3 quantity large enough to last through- iout the season. It must be prepared :long enough ahead to ripen to that delicious, moist. spicy lusciousness for which there is no substitute. The richer the cake is in fruits the longer will be in the time required for ripen- ing. If you make a really rich fruit cake,- and store it for a year, then i compare and taste with that of a cake 'freshly made from the same recipe, this will forever convince you. The “aging” of fruit cake and of mince meat as Well may be compared to the “aging” of wine. Time seems to put something mellow deliciousness into {them that no art of the cook can imi- Itate. l A very successful Bazaar was held in the Masonic Hall last Thursday under the auspices of the W.A. of St. Stephen’s Chuch. The afternoon tea, the sale of home-made cooking and the sale of fancy and useful articles brought in over $150. During the evening an autograph quilt was sold by auction to Mr. Wm. Usher of Edgeley. Tutti Frutti Christmas Cake This is a most delicious cake. It must, however, be kept at least a month before eating. It steadily im- proves with age. This recipe, as will be noted by the ,amount‘of flour called forâ€"~43 cupfulsâ€"make a large amoun of cake. ' Mr. Geo. Kelly Jr. and Mrs. Kelly have now \moved in their new home. We wish them much happiness and joy in their nice new home. One day last week Howard Mathe- son had the misfortune to fall out of a hayloft and put his left elbow out of joint. As Mr. Norman Prest was coming out of his lane on Saturday night his car was struck by an auto driven by Mr. Rowntree, of Woodbridge. Mr. Prest received injuries to his head which required several stitches. The W.M.S. of St. Andrew’s church gave an interesting programme at a social given by the W.M.S. of the Lutheran Church. A splendid supper was served in the basement of the church and a pleasant evening was spent by all. A quiet wedding took place at the Parsonage on Wednesday 23rd inst, when Mr. Neil Woods and Miss Margaret Malloy were united in mat- rimony by Rev. A. S. Kerr. Mr. C. N. Hartley and family re- moved last week to the village of Shu'wood. Mr. R. Goode and family have moved from this vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. A. Meyer and son Gordon and Mrs. J. Moore visited at Stouffville over the Week-end. One and one-half cups butter, 1 cup sugar, 7 eggs, 1 pound glace cherries. cut in halves; 1/2 pound citron peel, cut in thin strips, 11/2 pounds sultana raisins, 1/; pound bleached sultanas, 6 ounces almonds, blanched and shreddâ€" ed; 1 tumbler crab apple jelly, 1 tum- bler thick pineapple marmalade, one- half cupful brandy, wine or grape juâ€" ice. 1 tablespoonful vanilla, 6 cupfuls flour, mixed and sifted with 4 level teaspoonfuls baking powdér, 1 tea- spoonful salt and 1 nutmeg, grated. The amount of sugar is small owing Lto the sugar in the cherries, pineapple marmalade and apple jelly. The pupils of the public school are practising for their annual concert to be given in the Community Hall on Tuesday, December 20th. HOUSEHOLD HINTS Cream the butter, gradually add the sugar, then beat in the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition; add a little of the sifted flour, then beat in the jelly and the marmalade; now add the remaining flour altern- ately with the wine or grapejuice; add the vanilla, then add the fruit and nuts, which have previously been dusted off with oneâ€"half cupful of the flour. (The half cupful should be deducted from the total amount). Bake in a very moderate oven for frem 21%.; to three hours. Store in a crock, in which a sliced apple dipped in wine is placed; cover crock with several thicknesses of tea towelling or other clean cloth then place lid in place.
