With your words of sympathy, en- couragement and praise We felt we had in you a true friend. And then~ at our conventions, when we heard those words of praise from you about your teachers as a whole. We always went back to our work with the inspiâ€" ration to do our utmost to make the standard of our inspectorafe second to none. And, indeed. we believe, it was second to none and to you. Mr. Trench belongs the credit for such an assertiâ€" on. You have been a man that time has endeared to us. The longer we have known you the better we have liked you. It is a difficult matter to place in mere words our feelings to- Wards you. There are times when the thoughts of the heart can not be expressed in words. We feel the loss. Tomight we have come to you to show you in a tangible form other than in words that we sincerely regret such loss by asking you to accept this gift as a mere token of our friendship, es- teem and affection.
