The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H.F. Battersby, Rector of St. Mary’s Church who paid tribute to the life of the departed as one wor- thy of inspiration to others to follow iin his footsteps. The pailâ€"bearers ‘were George C. Newman, K.C.. To- ronto; Mayor J.M. Walton, Aurora; iDr. R.M. Hillary, Aurora; W.H. Legge, Thos. Trench, W. Ward Price, Wellington Hall and A.L. Phipps. The floral tributes which were many and beautiful were silent tribute to the real worth of the late Mr. Nicholls and evidence of the sincere feelings of regret and sorrow occassioned by his passing. Among them were tributes from, Rameses Temple. Toronto; Chairman and Members of the Board of Education, Richmond Hill; Officers and Members of Richmond Lodge A. F. and A.M., President and Directors of the Richmond Hill Agricultural Society, Congregation of St. Mary’s Church (C, of E.) and others too numerous to mention. McNaughton on 'Wednesday, January 4th. The new President for the year, Miss A. Walk- ington very capably took charge of the meeting. The programme set forth by the Ontario Provincial W.M.S. for the Women's Day of Prayer was carri- ed out, those taking part, Mrs. G. Matheson. Mrs. .W.J. Johnson, Mrs. T. Jackson, Mrs. N. Malloy and Rev. C.H. Bowman,. MiSS M. Johnson gave a splendid paper on the study- book-Moslem Women. After the meeting the hostess served a dainty lunch . The funeral of Letitia Riddell who passed away at the home of her sister in-Iaw Mrs. Robert Riddell of High Park Avenue, Toronto, was held on Saturday to King City cemetery. The deceased was the second daughter of the late Isaac Riddell and had lived in Listowel for a great many years. Annual Meeting of the Young People’s Society The annual meeting of the Young People’s Society of the United Church here was held in the Sunday School room of the Church last Monday even- ing. The following officers were elec- ted for the ensuing yearzâ€"President, Neil McDonald; lst Vice-President, Edith Luesby; 2nd Viceâ€"President, Alex Fee; 3rd Vice President. Miss E. Bird; 4th Vice-President, Mernice Fin- dlay; Secretary, Lela Brillinger; As- sistant Secretary, Norma Ground; Treasurer, Willard Simpson; Pianist, Edna Wiltshire; Assistant Pianist. Nora Johns. All young people of the community are cordially invited to at- tend these interesting meetings. Women’s Institute Meeting Th regular monthly meeting of the Thornhill branch of the Women’s In- stitute meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. J.A. Thompson next Thursday afternoon, January 19th. Miss Moyle of Richmond Hill will ad- dress this meeting. All ladies of the Community are cordiâ€" ially invited to become members. Mrs. B.R. Strangways who has been confined to her bed for a couple of months, on Wednesday last was transferred to St. Josephs Hospital, Toronto. We trust that Mrs. lStrangways will be among us again Nery shortly. ‘ Mr. Neil McDonald is attending the Petit Jury in Toronto. We are pleased to observe that Mr. A.A. Brillinger has opened up a Blacksmith shop at; the rear of his home. Mr. and Mrs. Greenaway from near! Lindsay are visiting at the home of their daughter, Mrs. A. Forrest. : Miss Margaret Lane, of Toronto ispent Sunday with her sisters Mrs. J. E. Francis and Mrs. N.J. Smellie. Mr. and Mrs. Will Gohn and daugh- ‘ter of Gormley visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. P. Robinson. United Church Annual Meeting The annual meeting of the United Church here will be held in the Sun- day School room of the church next Wednesday evening, January 19th. Supper will be served at 7 p.m., af- ter which reports will be heard from the various departments of the church and Sunday School interspersed Mission held in the United Church and are urged to be present at this very important meeting. Social and Personal Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thompson spent Sunday with relatives in Burl- ington, Ontario. The many friends of Miss Alemds Clubine will be pleased to learn she is recovering nicely after her recent op- eration in the Toronto General Hospi- tal. Quite an interest is being taken in the meetings of the Faith Evangelical Misison held in the United Church and being led by Miss Gibb and Miss Row- don. These meetings are undenomiâ€" ational and all are invited. It is ex- pected that a band of twenty workers from Toronto will be present to assist in the service on Friday evening. The postponed meeting of the trusâ€" tees and ratepayers of this section will be held in the school house on Saturday, January 28th at 10 o’clock in the forenoon. Mrs. Wm. Ness spent the week-end with her son Harvey in Toronto. Mr. H. C. Bailey was in Northern Ontairo last week on a business trip. Mr. E. Gordon of Concord and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Love and little son of Weston. visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Keys on Sunday. Mrs. R.A. Nesbit and Miss Barr are visiting with their sister Mrs. Me. Claus in St. Thomas.
