Fur coats and galoshes were more in order than spring toggery. Richmond Hill citizens are patting themselves on the back that they are fortunate in having Yonge Street paved this year. The side streets are in a bad mess and some are so bad as to impossible to travel. Only six weeks until May 24, which for the past seventy-eight years has been Richmond Hill’s big day. It is not too early to start boosting the Richmond Hill Spring Fair. New Maple Syrup has made its appearance and this delightful and distinctively Canadian product is just as sweet as ever. Springtime is on the wingâ€"all signs are that the happiest season of the year is upon us. The birds are coming in large numbers. The wild flowers are peeping through and blossom days will soon be here. The fall wheat‘ crop throughout York County is reported to have wintered very well and prospects for the crop are much better than were anticipated. Many fields are show- ing a decided green tinge. Noah Wideman’s farm stock sale out on the 6th concession of Mark. ham last Wednesday was Well attendâ€" ed and prices were considered high. A team of black mares, aged 10 and 12 years, were knocked down at $300, while the high prised cow of the herd sold at $150. Mr. Wideman realized $2,700 from the sale. Stouffville farmers are entering in- to contract for the production of cauliflower this coming season, a1- lowing the grower $40 per ton. Forty years ago Mrs. Mary Bobbst of Montgomery, Mo., became angry at her husband and swore that she was going to bed and remain until she died, and she did, dying recently at the age of 92. A rooster with two horns that are two inches long is owned by a farmer near Hot Springs, Ark. Continuous wet weather in Broms- grove, Eng., has caused grass seed to germinate in the fleeces of W.E. Dodd’s sheep and they are now all a light green in color. Mrs. Ella Gorman of Chicago was granted a divorce after testifying that her husband spanked her before several guests. HON. Crows have made their presence known in the large numbers through- out the township of North York, and residents living in the vicinity of the Don river are becoming anxious re- garding their depredations. T.H. Alexander, brilliant Southern columnist, some time ago facetiously suggested that all lawyers ought to be hanged. In reply to many pro- tests, he apologized, saying: “They should have known that I did not mean it. They should have known that not more than threeâ€"fourths of the lawyers should be hung.†The Bolton Enterprise reports a good crowd at the Bolton rink on Saturday, March 31. It also recalls that there was skating in that town {on April 13 in the season of 1913-14. High pressure salesmen of worth- less stoclqs will have a little harder sledding in Ontario as a result of a new “blueâ€"sky†law just passed by the legislature. In spite of all warn- ings, many millions of dollars are filched from the public through stock Swindlers. The new law provides, aâ€" mong other things, that all stock brokers and salesmen must be regis- tered. The ideal weather on Good Friday lured hundreds of motorists from the city and North Yonge Street had a taste of midsummer traffic. It was confined entirely however to the pavâ€" ed roadways and any who ventured ‘on the cross roads or concessions soon found themselves in difficulty. Mrs. Walter Runciman has been elected to the British parliament, of which her husband is also a member. This is the first time husband and wife have been so honored. Mrs. Ruth Demarest of Chicago ‘testified in her divorce suit that after her husband drove her from home he refused to talk to her except through the window.
