NEWMAN Telephoneâ€"Maple 3 MAPLE HOTEL Office Hours DENTAL LEGAL ONTARIO I Citizens of this district take pride in the Richmond Hill annual Spring Fair which is being held to-day for the lseventyâ€" inth consecutive time. This 'splendi record of service is a tribute Ito the men who have guided the desti- inies of the society through all the years and who are to-day carrying on the work of the organization. The .community owes a debt of gratitude to the men who year after year give freely of their time and energy in promoting this community ugdertak- Iing with no thought of personal gain 'or reward except that they are rend- ering a service to the cause of better Agriculture and social and material welfare of the district. Richmond Hill Fair has been fortunate in at- tracting to its service/men of ability and in having the financial support of many public spirited citizens of York County. . ll Robert Agar, the second vice-presi- ident also comes from Markham Town- !ship and has to his credit many years got faithful and valuable service to the ‘Richmond Hill Agricultural Society, He is chairman of the sports committ- zee and is one of the busiest men on the grounds looking after this depart- ment which is more and more becom- Iing‘ one of the major attractions of the day. One of the greatest assets of the fair is the energetic, enthusiastic and hardworking slate of officers and di- rectors. The popular president Mr. W. H. Legge is a very busy man, but there seems no limit to his capacity for work. He has been associated with the fair for a number of years, has had years of experience as a practical farmer, is a capable horse judge and an admirer of live stock. He is therefore an ideal incumbent for the position which he holds having a thorough understanding of the far- mer and his problems and require- ments as an exhibitor. He was this year honored by election as district di- rector of the Ontario Fairs and Exhi- bitions Association and takes an act- ive part in the work of fairs and agricultural societies throughout the province. Seventy-Nine Years 0% ngress of Richmond Hill Fair is Tribute To Men Who Have Guiflfi‘d Destinies of The Organization Fred A. Clark one of the successful farmers of Markham Township is the first vice-president. It is indeed fitt- ing that this office should be held by a. representative from this great township, noted for its good farms, good farmers and good livestock. Mr. Clark is a valued member of the ex- ecutive and has been associated with the fair for many years. punctual in attendance at all meetings the value of his advice and counsel is only surpassed by his enthusiasm for the welfare of the society. For many years he has had charge of the Hall and fittings department and is also active an other committees. ‘~This year he is one of the committee in charge of the horseshoe contest. J. S. McNair an eX-reeve of Vaugh- an Township is one of the veteran di- rectors of the society. He has been a director continuously for over thirty years and is also a past president of the organization. Most faithful and punctual in attendance at all meetings JAMES McLEAN Director of the Richmond Hill Agri- cultural Society and Chairman of the Committee in charge 0f the Horseshoe Pitching Contest. 'RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO, THURSDAY, MAY 24. 1928 MEN AT HELM TO~DAY RENDER A NOTABLE PUBLIC SERVICE Light Horse comm Grounds committee. Frank Graham of Vaughan Town- ship and widely known as a horseman of note is a member of the committee in charge of the heavy horses. Frank is a stockman of reputeandhis counsel in this important department of the fair is very valuable. W. H. PUGSLEY Honorary President of the Rich- mond Hill Agricultural Society and one of the veteran workers of the organization. James McLean in many respects by virtue of his wide experience with fairs and exhibitions in all parts of Ontario is the “daddy of em all.” When some difficult'job is to be done it is a common occurrence to hear the board with one accord say “let Jim do it.”‘ Space would not permit the re- counting of his many and varied inte- rests in the Agricultural world but suffice to say that his shoulders are broad that he cheerfully and capably carries on from year to year as one of the most valued directors on the board. On fair day you will find him around where the horses are being ‘judged and this year he will have the added responsibilities of chairman of the committee in charge of the Horse- lshoe contest. advar Reeve Lunau, of Richmond Hill, is ‘one of the village directors and is an enthusiastic worker. His business takes him out among the farmers a good bit of the time and he's a booster for the fair the whole year round. He has been chairman of the Light Horse‘ classes in past years and he has had added to his duties the responsibility for the baby show. It was admittedly a rather dangerous undertaking for a man in municipal politics, but Mr. Lu- nau was one of the boosters of the idea and when he was named on the committee he undertook it gladly. T. H. Trench is another of the vill- age directors. He is an ex-reeve of the town and that same ability and sincerity which characterizes his sup- port of all worthy undertakings is eviâ€" denced in his work for the Agricultu- ral Society. In past years he has had charge of the poultry exhibits but it was felt that perhaps his recognized ability and capacity for work was somewhat cramped in this department and he was this year in addition made chairman of the committee in charge of the Baby Show and whatever may have been his lot in former years with the poultry it is admitted that this Ice Director R. S. Thompson of Lang- staff is a past president of the Socie- ty and whenever there is a meeting or some work to be done “Bob” is always on the job. He has been associated with the society for several years and takes a keen interest not only in the local organization but in the work of the Ontario Fairs and Exhibitions As- sociation where he gets many ideas for the advancement and betterment of the Richmond Hill Fair. 1e the Itag cultur ha 31!" render r great: He is a uch an rs and he has had the responsibility It was admittedly undertaking for a 1‘ local member institut ' and is full. membe alw e sen in th Jpport Director J. E. Francis, of Thornhill, has served with distinction on the board for many years. He is a pastâ€" president of the Society and is chair- man of the finance committee. W. A. Wright, Wes Middleton and J. W. Palmer are newcomers on the board of directors this year and have given valuable assistance with the planning- of the 1928 fair. R. W. E. Burnaby, F. A. Legge and J. Cherry are also tried and valuable members of the directorate. Very valuable assistance has been THOS. H.
