Note the On Saturday afternoon at the home ' of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Nichols, Vic- I toria Square, Mr. and Mrs. James . Wellman, of Glasgow, Ontario and formerly of Markham Township cele- brated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding. It was a unique gath- ering and a joyous reunion of the family of the late George Wellman in honor of the Golden Wedding of Jam- es, the oldest member of a family of twelve, six boys and six girls. Eight ‘of the nine surviving brothers and sisters of the groom were present, Mrs. Levi Wice, of Calgary, a sister being the only one absent. Mr. Jam- es Wellman was born in Markham oTownship on what is known as the old Steele farm. Fifty years ago he wasl married to Sarah Borker and on Sat- urday the-fiftieth mile post in their happy married life was 'marked by a family gathering. For about ten years after their marriage they farm- ed on the second concession of Mark- ham and afterwards kept store and the post office at Headford for nearly thirty years. The bride and groom of fifty years ago are enjoying good health to-day and on this unique oc- casion were the subject of many good wishes and happy felicitations from their relatives and many friends in this district. Mrs. Nichols was assisted in the preparation of the dinner by two of her sisters, Mrs. J.A. McCague, Tor- onto, and Mrs. W.A. Helmkay, Cree- lmore. The beautiful flowers which decorated the tables were supplied by the Misses Hopper. The bride’s cake had springing from its centre a lovely ‘1in of four blooms, this also was kin- ‘dly given by Miss Hopper. Plans had been made to serve the dinner on the lawn but owing to the threatening weather conditions the tables were spread in the barn. Fifty sat down and had the inner man sat- isfied. At the conclusion of the dinnâ€" ‘er a few short addresses were given by the brothers, brothersâ€"in-law, neph- ews and two of the nieces, Miss Myrt- le McCague and Miss Dora Helmkay, B.A. An address was then read by Mrs. David Wellman and the presen- ation of two easy chairs was made to the bride and groom by Messrs Frank and George Wellman. The following address was presented: Dear Brother and Sister, Auntie and Uncle, Grandmother and Grandfather We have gathered together this af- ternoon in memory of a happy event which took place fifty years ago, January 30, 1878, at. the home of the brides Father, Daniel Barker, on the second concession of Markham, when Rev.
