The condition of the 9th concession of Whitchurch is the subject of much ’unfavorable comment. Some time ago work was done on this township road, and farmers now allege that it is in worse condition than before the work was done on it. The North York Hunter Field trials to encourage the breeding and sale of hunters to be held at Mr. Jarvis’ farm Hazelburn, on Saturday, Sept 8th, has already attracted a large number of entries. Four entries have been reâ€" ceived from different parts of the United States, one from Montreal with a possibility of five more from the same place and 26 have already been received from Toronto. Excell- ent prizes are being offered and the event will undoubtedly be a big sucâ€" cess. Farm communities of Ontario have not been backward in accepting the assistance of the Ontario Government and grants have reached about $25,000 toward the erection of some 73 halls and the laying out of 12 community playing fields. The Government grants 25 per cent. of the total cost of the hall up to $8,000. The maximum grant is $2,000. According to the statistics of the department the vari- ous farming communities that have taken advantage of the legislation have spent over half a million dollars on community halls. ' Mr. Robt. Miller is draining the newly acquired lands which he recent- ly added to his farm in Whitchurch at Ringwood, and is putting down some eighteen thousand tile. ier An inspector of the Toronto Hu- mane Society is gathering stray dogs in the northwestern suburbs following an agreement between the society and York township. Citizens have been given the idea. that animals are caught in a net and frightened, which is not the case, officials say.
