KIDD ONTARIO AD. 0178 RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 20th, 1928 Nomination day for surrounding municipalities is on Monday, Decemb- er 3lst, and it is hoped that all meet- ings will be favored by a large atten- dance of ratepayers. Friday, December let is nomination day in North York Township and a keenly contested election is assured in the municipality. Exâ€"reeve R. F. Hicks is a candidate this year and his long record of successful administr- ation in the township marks him as a. very formidable contender for the offâ€" ice. Another aspirant is Deputy- ‘Reeve Muirhead and probably others lwill come forward at the nomination ‘meeting toâ€"morrow. The prevalence of colds and sickness in the district has greatly interférred w1th the school attendance and in some sections classes are badly disorâ€" ganized. , The County Council of Peterboro has petitioned the Legislature not to grant the request of certain Chambers of Commerce which asked that day- light saving, or summer time. should be adopted as a Provincial meaSure. There were three thousand visitors at the three day poultry show held at Newmarket last week. Dr. S. S. Ball, of Stouffville has been appointed a coroner for ~the County of York. Stouffville is considering the instal- ' lation of a modern telephone alarml system in conncetion with their fire brigade. Richmond Hill could well consider the adoption of some more modern and efficient system than the one in vogue. . Hydro is expected to be turned on at Almira very soon, and some of the householders are wired in readineSS They will be served by the line being built along the 6 concession of Markâ€" ham from the south townline to the north townline at Jas. Brodie’s corner. The world’s most recent example of an optimist was the thief {who entered a “newspaper office” at Bolton last week in search of money. In relating the robbery the Bolton Enterprise said: .â€"A sneak thief entered the editor’s residence during his absence on Sun- day afternoon and took four dollars from a drawer upstairs and a “shin- plaster” from the till in the office. Wonder the thief selected the day afâ€" ter pay day and so soon after the fam- ily groceries are bought for the week- end. The $4.00 did not belong to us, ibut. we did not like to lose the “shin- plaster." We were using it as the nucleus of our tax money. If the ‘thief will make a return visit when iwe me at home we will help him in ‘his search for money and split fiftyâ€" lfifty with him. From Maple Gravel Pit GENERAL CARTAGE by Truck WM.
