LANG HEADFORD OBITUARY MAPLE a diagnosis of disease is not made by special tests, X-Ray, or other examin- ations. What these do is to supply additional information which the doc- tor considers, together with the other facts which he has gathered from his questioning of the patient and the re- sults of the examinatzon which he himself has made. Physicians do not make a diagnosis on one symptom When the ordinary procedures are inadequate for a particular case, and when the doctor believes that certain special examinations or tests will be of assistance, he will not hesitate to so inform his patient. The public should understand that, in any case, The majority of those who enter a doctor’s ofiice, whether because they lare ill or because they want to keep "well, can be examined thoroughly and :satisfactol'ily by the doctor’s using ‘such instruments as are found in any properly equipped office and making 'such tests as can be made, with his ordinary equipment, by any qualified physician. It is quite evident that‘many per- sons have the idea that in almost every condition from which the hu- man body suffers, an Xâ€"Ray examin- ‘ation is required to enable the doctor to understand the case. It is also apparent that there exists a popular idea that, by means of the X-Ray, the physician can see all parts of the in- side of the body and study their act- ion just as clearly and simply as he views the skin with his eyes. It has increased its field of usefulness but it still has certain limitations, and its use and the interpretation of its findings are not as simple as is com- monly thought; It seems necessary to refer to this because it is apparent that some persons rather feel they have been cheated when their physici- an does not order them to have an X-Ray. E. LUKE, Opt. D. WE have from time to time through this community buying page given advice to the residents as to what they owe its merchants, business interests, civic, mun- icipal and national government. You probably will say that it is not the lack of advice, but the superabundance of it that makes life difficult. Young men and women entering business are told by some to save their money and by self-sacrifice accumulate a competence for their old age. Others tell them that the ultimate end of ex- istence is happiness, that they live but once and they had better have a good time while here. There is only one way to find a straight course through this multipli- city of suggestion, and that is to strike a balance some- where and preserve it. It is true that to accomplish anything really important there must be enthusiasm. This is what we are aiming at in expounding the Com- munity spirit. Enthusiasm helps the growth of your community. It makes you bigger and better. - Your belief in your neighbor and merchant keeps you from running wild and makes those outside of your commun- ity anxious to become your neighbors.
