Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Murphy visited friends in Toronto on Sunday. Mr. Isaac Walder, of Toronto, forâ€" merly of Richmond Hill, is quite ill in the General Hospital, Toronto. His many friends here wish him a speedy recovery. Messrs Han-y Ehdéén, Henrir'Wiuiâ€" ams and Chas. Clarke are in Toronto this week serving on jury. Miss Gladys Huffman, of Toronto, spent the week-end with friends in the village. Mr. Ellis Wiley, of Wainwright, Sask, called on old friends in the vill- age on Tuesday. The girls of the L.O.B.A. are hold- ing a sale of homeâ€"made candy, cake, etc, in the old Docinion Store on Sat- urday, December 14th at two o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. A. Craven, of Toronto, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Scott. Much sympathy is felt for Mrs. K. E. Leary, Whitevale, in the death of her husband Mr. Joseph Leary last week. Mr. and Mrs. Leary lived on Roseview Avenue, Richmond Hill, for several years prior to returning to Whitevale last summer. Mrs. Jos. Atkinson left on Wednes- day to spend a few weeks with her laughter, Mrs. H. J. Ings, of Ottawa. Social and Personal IN MEMORIAM UNITED CHURCH CHRISTMAS TREE The annual entertainment and Christmas Tree at the Richmond Hill United Church will be held on Thurs- day next, December 19th at 8 p. m. The scholars are presenting a Christ- mas Cantata of six scenes and thirteen characters entitled “When Santa List- ened In,” together with a special programme by the Primary Depart- ment. On Sunday afternoon, Dec. 22nd a special Christmas service will be held in the form of a White Gift Service, when gifts for the Orphanage and needy families will be received. BAKING SALE The members of Empire Lodge are holding a sale of Home-made cooking and candy, also aprons and fancy goods, on Saturday, December 14th, in the store Robinson Block, formerly occupied by the Dominion Store. Sale starts at two o’clock. CHRISTMAS TREE AT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH The annual Christmas Tree and concert of the Richmond Hill Presby- terian Church Sunday School will be held on W'ednesday evening, Decemb- er 18th at 8 p. m. There will be a varied program of choruses, recitat- ions, dialogues and drills. HOCKEY CLUB ORGANIZED An organizatirn meeting of the Richmond Hill Hockey Club was held on Tuesday evening. There was a fair attendance and Bert Cook presid- ed during the election of ofiicers which resulted as follows; President, Johnny McLean; Manager, Frank Grainger; Secretary Russell Lynett; Treasurer, Ralph Mackie. The club will make representation for admission to the Markham township league and it is hoped to have an active,season. Richmond Hill United Church was the scene of a pretty wedding on Wed- nesday, December the eleventh, when ‘ Isabel Helena, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Wiley, of Richmond Hill, became the bride of Mr. Richard Alfred Edgar Wall, of Toronto, son of Rev. and Mrs. A. A. Wall, ‘of Allanâ€" dale. Rev. A. A. Wall, father of the groom was the officiating minister, assisted by Rev. G. E. Coulter, pastor : of the United Church. Mr. Melecci, ‘ organist of the church, played the ‘ wedding music. The altar was taste- fully decorated with ferns, mums, and roses. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, looked lovely in her gown of eggshell satin, fash- ioned in long circular skirt, with short, close-fitting bodice, and wore eggshell satin shoes. The long pearl-embroid- ered veil of eggshell tulle was arrang- ed in cap effect, trimmed with pearls ‘and orange blossoms. She carried a shower bouquet of Ophelia roses. Miss Margaret McKinnon, of Beaver- ton, cousin of the bride, was brides- maid and wore a gown of blue trans- parent velvet with hat to match. Her flowers were Madame Butterfly roses. Mr. Joseph J. Drennan, of Toronto, acted as groomsman, and the ushers were Mr. Edward Drennan and Mr. Evan Peacock, both of Toronto. Dur- ing the signing of the register, Miss Margaret Derry, of Toronto, cousin of the bride sang very sweetly, “Until”. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the home, which was prettin decorated with flowers, the bride’s mother receiving the guests in a gown of black cut velvet with matching hat, and wore a corsage bouquet of Temp- , lar roses. Mrs. Wall, mother of the , groom, was dressed in blue and rose I cut velvet, with hat to match, and wore a corsage bouquet of Columbia I roses. A dainty buffet luncheon was serv- ed, the bridal table being decorated with pink roses, and centred with the wedding cake, topped with flowers. The happy couple were the recipients of many beautiful gifts and the good , wishes of all. On their return they v will reside in Toronto. A business meeting of the Women’s Association will be held at the home of Mrs. Leishman, Yonge Street, on Monday afternoon, December 16th. A cordial invitation is extended to all ladies to attend. Mrs. M. Fortier had the misfortune to fall last Sunday morning breaking her hip. Her many friends in East Vaughan Ratepayers Association wish her a speedy recovery. The annual Sunday School Enter- tainment and Christmas Tree will be given in the Church on Monday even. The programme, be- ginning at 8.15 will consist of the pupils programme, follgwed by a play entitled “His Model Wife”, presented by the young people of the community Adults 35 cents and children 25 cents. BASKETBALL GAME A Basketball Game will be /played in the High School Gymnasium on Friday, December 13th at 8.15 p. m. between the High School team and the “Richmond Hill Grads.” The “Grads” team was organized last season, but failed to reach the play-offs in their league. However they look more promising this year and are entered in the Intermediate group of the Torâ€" onto and District Basketball League. The public are invited to attend not only the game mentioned above, but also the league games which will com- mence in the near future and will be announced later. With ice almost ready for the official opening of the Curling Season local enthusiasts of the “stane and besom” are getting prepared for a fine wint- ers‘ sport. A meeting of all members and all who would like to play this year is called for NEXT WEDNESâ€" DAY NIGHT, DECEMBER 18th and it is earnestly hoped that there will be a large and representative attendance so that organization and plans for the year may be completed. Reserve the date, next Wednesday, December 18th for the Curlers’ meeting.
