The great International Plowing Match and Farm Machinery Demonâ€" stration will be staged near the city of Stratford, Perth County, on the King’s Highway No. 7, on October 14, 15, 16 and 17, 1930. The relief ofl‘icer at Guelph has an- nounced that in future he will not give assistance from the city to anyone’who drives or owns a motor car. Any perâ€" son who owns an automobile surely has a well developed nerve to ask for charity from a municipality. Alliston’s tax rate is 49 mills which is three mills higher than last year. that people cannot haVe modern muni- cipal improvements Without paying Like other towns. Alliston is realizing for them Don’t take chances While on the high- wayâ€"SAFETY first, last and always. “Absoluterâ€"and the nicest.”â€"Bos- ton Transcript. Beyond All Rivals “Are mine the only lips you ever kissed?” Pass up the “HITCH-HIKERS" on Yonge Sreet. Ride the street cars and make them pay. . School will soon be commencing for the fall term. Warn the children of the danger of crossing Yonge _Street. | If Dooley potaoes don’t attract heaps of attention at Shelburne Fair, in September, it will be the fault of the growers and not of the prize list. The prizes offered for Dooleys will total $52. Considerable of the unemployment is caused by people who want jobs without work. Kitchener has decided that no civic ‘aid will be given to families whose heads spend money on .liquor. The ‘same rule is being applied in Orillia. It is a reasonable proviso. The tax- payers have burdens enough without helping those whose money is wasted on strong drink. Chicken thieves stole 680 pure bred chickens from the poultry yards of Mrs. H. M. Ajtken, Beeton, last week and then set fire to the poultry house. Mrs. Aitken chased the thieves as far as Bond Head but was unable to over- take them. Fatalities on Yonge Street empha- size the need of sidewalks for pedes- trians. Municipalities of Newmarket and Aurora are still discussing the pur- chase of the radials north of Richmond Hill. The purchase price will be $150,000, and this will be paid in the following “proportions. Newmarket 50 per cent, Aurora, 37 per cent, King, 4 per cent, Whitechurch, 4 per cent., Markham 2 1-2 per cent. Vau- ghan, 2 1-2 per cent. No parking signs have been erected on Yonge Street near the Lorne and Arnold Street corners. Parking close to an intersection is dangerous and l Deputyâ€"Reeve T. M. Baker of ‘Vaughan Township on Wednesday ‘evening August 13th, completed his 1930 harvesting and threshing. The grand finale was accomplished exactly 18 days after the binder cut the first grain. Mr. Baker reports a very good crop and has over 3,000 bushels of fine grain in his granary. We believe this constitutes a harvesting and threshing record which will be hard to beat in this section of Ontario. At the last regular meeting Whit- church council paid a sheep claim of $210 to P. Murphy for eight killed' and four injured by dogs. RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO; THURSDAY, AUGUST 2'1, 1930. i Newmarket won the Mackenzie King cup emblematic of the Baseball chamâ€" pionship of Ontario and York Coun- ties. Aurora piayerswere runnersâ€" ilp. Newmarket enters the 0.B'.A.A. play-offs. The Newmarket Firemen’s Garden Party realized over $1,000 in proceeds. The Canadian National Exhibition takes the centre of the stage. A-B-C-Always be careful GENERAL NEWS AND VIEWS Richmond Hill Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jones, Elgin Mills, motored to Bala to spend a few days with some friends. Threshing is in full swing around this neighborhood now. Mr. Henry Espey, superintendent of the thresh- ing at Mr. John Espey’s, reports that the grain never yielded better in a good many years. Mrs. Joseph Porrill & Son, of Elgin Mills, and friends from Toronto, moâ€" tored to Niagara Falls, last Sunday. Mrs. William Jones of Temperance- ville, visited her sister, Mrs. Chester Bone, of Elgin Mills, on Wednesday. Mr. Joseph Espey and Mr. John Hislop of Douglas avenue, Toronto, visited friends at Elgin Mills, last Tuesday. The ball game between Unionville arid Thornhill played at Elgin Mills last Monday evening- was won by Un- ionville. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Morrison. and three other passengers while motor- ing :1er King city last Sunday night misjudged the distance of a corner which resulted in the car turn- ing over into a ditch. Mr. Morrison had his‘ collar bone broken and the rest of the passengers were badly shaken up. We are very sorry to hear about 'the death of Mrs. Henry Richards Langstafl', mother of Mrs. Joe Steph- enson of Elgin Mills. Elgin Mills was all aglow by the number of officers surrounding that district last Saturday in search of the bandit who robbed King city bank, but the writer thinks they were hunt- ing for squirrels. ire REG PETCH ELGIN MILLS Dependable Companies OffiCPRadial Station ; ..:.'- mm"vmuunmummmmm INSURANCE Automobile Canadian National Exhibition TORONTO fig?
