THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 15th, 1934 The Young Men’s Bible Class of the Thornhil United Church conducted the evening service last Sunday eve- ning in Newtonbrook United Church. There was a choir of twenty-five young men with Mr. Floyd Davies at the ‘organ. A comet solo was well rendered by Mr. Cecil Martin and two special numbers were sung by the Young Men’s choir. The teacher of the class, Mr. M. J. Johnson, gave a. very inspiring and helpful address. The pastor, Rev. A. H. Halbert, had charge of the morning service. There .were large congregations at both morning and evening services. Next Tuesday, Feb. 20th, the W. M.S. will hold their regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. W. T. Wells, at 2:30 pm. The reports of the annual meeting of the W.M.S. of Toronto Centre Presbyterial will be received. The ladies of the congre- gation are cordially invited to attend. A meeting- of the Girl’s Mission Circle was held at the parsonage last Thursday evening. Owing to the ex- tremer cold weather, the speaker of the evening, Mrs. Gundy, was unable to attend. The fourth chapter of the Study Book on “Medical Missions in China” was reviewed by Miss Lorene Brown and Miss Margaret Graham. The president, Miss Irene Smith, led in the devotional exercises. Mrs. Wiley of Caledonia is visiting with her sister, Mrs‘. A. W. Galbraith. .We are sorry to report that Mrs. A. W. Galbraith has not been so well lately. We hope she will soon be about again. Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Halbert of A1- liston visited at the parsonage a few days last week. The Y.P.S. held their meetiqg‘ on Monday evening with Miss Janet Rid- delI presiding. The devotional period was conducted by the Missionary Vice-Presidents, Miss J. Rid‘d‘ell and Miss Nora Graham. A very splendid report was presented by Miss Doris Soden, of the Executive meeting held last Sunday evening at Edgeley. At the close of the meeting the Recrea- tional Convener, Miss Gladys Sutterby had an hours program of contests and games. This was followed by dainty refreshments. There was an attendance of thirty. Neit Monday evening the Y.P.S. will visit the Wilâ€" lowdale Y.P.S. Christian Women all over the world will unite in prayers for peace on Friday, Feb. 16th, which has been chosen for the World’s Day of Pray- er. The ladies of all the churches at Lansing, Willo-wdale and Newton- brook will hold a joint meeting in Westminster Presbyterian Church, Willowdale, at 3 13.111. on Friday, Feb. 16th. Delegates from the various organi- zations of the United Church are at- tending the Ontario Prohibition Un- ion Conve-ntion which is being held at the King Edward Hotel on Feb. 14th and 15th. The United Church choir enjoyed a skating party to Varsity Rink last Saturday evening. Among those who attended the an- nual W.M.S.\ meeting of Toronto Centre Presbyterial, held in St. George's Church, Toronto, last Thurs- day, were: Mrs. J. L. Soden, Mrs. Herbert James, Mrs. W. T. Wells, Miss Hope, Mrs. A. H. Douglas, Miss M. Case, Mrs. A. H. Halbert, Miss Edna Street, Mrs. Summers, Mrs. H. Smith, Mrs. A. W. Stephenson and Mrs. R. F. Hicks. A high class concert Will be Held in Newtonbl‘ook United Church on Thurs d'ay evening, Feb. 22nd, under the aus- pices of the choir. The Old Tyme Vil lage Quartette of which Mr. A. C. Chapman is the director, will be a special attnaction. Remember the date, Thursday, Feb. 22nd. Miss Cora Good is visiting her sister, Mrs. Leslie Old‘ham, at Mt. Albert. A Red and White Chain Store has been the latest addition to Newton- brook. Mr. Cody is manager. We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Cody and fam~ ily to our midst. The Women’s Association met last Fridiay afternoon with the President, Mrs. Wells, presiding. Plans were made for a birthday party which will be announced at a later date. The Y.P.S. is practising a ‘play which they intend to present in a few weeks. The Day of Prayer Service for this district will be held in Westminster Presbyterian Church on Friday, Feb. 16th, at 3 pm. The W.M. Societies from Lansing, Willowdale and New- ton-brook will take part in the service. They came this far by Metropolitan, and were driven the rest of the way in Proctor’s van. Large to return another year, subject to decision of conference. In the Mulock orchard contest in North York the nursery stock sold by Mr. H. H. Read of Aurora carried off eight of the prizes1 out of the sixteen. Two rinks from the Toronto Lake View Curling Club came up Satur- day afternoon and played a friendly match with the home club. The vis- itors were defeated by 15 points. The players afterwards dined at the Do- minion House. The return match will be played in Toronto on Saturday next. Thompson of Temperanceville. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Presbyterian Church Congregation on Wednesday evening of last week. The Rector occupied the chair and Mr. Thos.
