PROMPT DELIVERY Another rather amusing one was found in Surrey, England: “Sacred to the memory of Nathaniel Goldbold Esq., Inventor and ProprietOr of that excellent medicineâ€"THE VEGE- TABLE BAL_SAMâ€"1~enowned for ctu'e of Consumption and Asthma. Died December 17th, 1799. Died of fevers and asthma.” Here is one over a grave in Eng- landâ€"“Here lies the body of Lady O’Looney. Great niece of Burke, commonly called the Sublime. She was blonde, passionate, and deeply religious, alsp painted in water col- ours.” The gem of them all comes from Worolwich, England, which readsâ€" “Sacred to the memory of Major Brush, Royal Artillery, who was killâ€" ed by the accidental discharge of a. pistol by his orderly, April 15th, 1831. An amazing one in the Old Men’s Hospital at Norwich, England, is one Teading: “In memofiy of Mrs. Phoebe Crewe who died May 28th, 1817, aged 77 years, who during forty years prac- tice as a midwife in this city, brought into the world 9,730 children.” An epitaph in Princess Anne Coun- ty, Virginia, "tells the brief and un- fortunate story of a man who should have known betterâ€"“Here lies the body of Henry Moore, who got in the way of .44.” THE SUCKER LIST “We want to make money for you, so we are telling a few, 3 very few, people, what stocks! to buy to-dayâ€" )hone or write at our expense; any- way let us send you our news sheet for ten days free. In the meantime let us know, what stocks you are holding; we will sell them and make some money for you.” Thus write several stock mining brokers located on Bay Street, Toronto. Sex equality is hooey. Did you ever see a girl who was ashamed to let the boy buy his own ticket? Well done, good and faithful sevr- vant.” v On sending yqur name you ‘get daily reports of how the prices on several stocks recommended by them have doubled and trebled, and still advising you to buy. Then come telegrams 0r frantic phone calls, to buy ‘before something opens up in another day or two.” After three or four calls, they offer to sell any stock you hold and make you a lot of money, so you can buy still moveâ€"through them, of course. As no sane person will buy some of the stocks, Whose only resemblance to gold is the gilt on the certificates, holders don’t send them to the plead- er who is “so anxious to make money for you.” By this time he calls you by your first name, hoping that will impress you with the genuinevss of his friendship. It’s great to be on the Sucker List! At Cross Kirk, Shetland Islands, a graveâ€"stone bears the followingâ€"â€" “Donald Robertson, born January lst, 1785, died June 4th, 1848, aged 63 years. He was a peaceful and quiet man and a. sincere Christian. His death was very much regretted which was caused by the crass stupidity of Laurence Tulloch of Clotherton, who sold him nitre instead of Epsom Salts by which he died in three hours.” At least Laurence Tulloch knew what the departed brethren’s family thought of him. In Girard, Penn, almost anything can happen as evidenced by the fol- lowingâ€"“In memory of Ellen Shan- non, aged 26, fatally burned, 1870, by the explosion of a lamp fillea with Danforth’s non-explosive fluid.” EUCHRE PRIZE WINNERS The Winners at the euchre at the Iasonic Hall, King City, held by the iortic‘ultural Society, were: Ladies, st Miss L. ONTARIO BRANCH The Y.P.S. of Camille held a very interesting debate at their meeting last Monday evening. The subject of I the debate was “Resolved that wealth‘ is more detrimental to Christianity‘ than poverty.” The affirmative was ably taken by Miss Laurens. Walker and Mr. Lloyd Vanderberg, the neg- ative by Miss Edna Reaman and Mr. Jake Koning. The judges were Mr. Wideman, teacher of Concord school, Mr. Noble, ex-principal of Richvale school, and Mr. Cue, present principal of Richvale. The judges in their de- cision ruled out all quotations from the old Testament as they did not consider they should be counted. The decision was in favor of the affirma- tive side. There was a splendid at- tendance, and the debate was very much enjoyed by all. Rev. Davis of King spoke in Carr- vill-e Church last Sunday evening, his subject being “Home Missions and the Maintainance Fund.” Mrs; J. Clement and Mrs. Clark are collecting for this fund this week.
