Thei meeting was attended by a large num-i ber of the leading men of the Town and farmers from the surrounding country, and much interest was mani-; fested with_the proposed undertaking.‘ Mr. Dubois, the speaker of the eve- ning, endeavoured to show that such a project in Newmarket would be atâ€"l tended with much success and profit. Minutes of p0stponed regular meet- ing of Richmond Hill Fire Brigade, held in the Engine Room on Dec. 12th. 1 The Captain in the char. Minutesj of last meeting read and approved. ‘Edward Snyder moved, seconded by lGeorge Tyndall, that the Oyster Sup- {per previously spoken of be substi- tuted by an Entertainment. The com- mittee appointed were authorized to provide the best entertainment pos- sible. Foreman Red‘ditt, W. S. Sny- der and Jas. McConnell were appoint- ed a committee to superintend the decorations, fireworks, etc, on New Year’s night. Mr. A. J. Rupert and .Mr. W. Minthorn were proposed and accepted as members of the Fire Brigade. The meeting then adjourned l l Nominations for municipal honors will take place on Monday, the 29th inst, and’ the elections 2. week later. It behooves ratepayers to be up and doing, as the best of men are re- quired to fill responsible positions. The Muncipal Council of the Town- ship of Vaughan met at the Town Hall on Tuesday, the 16th day of Dec. at 10 a.m. Reeve in the chair. Mem- bers present: Messrs. Cook, Reaman, Malloy and Elliott. Several sheep claims were presented and ordered paid, also accounts were passed and general business transacted. Village Council met in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening, Dec. 17th, at 8.30. The Reeve in the chair. Members present: Messrs Crosby, Law, Hvopperi and Moonlie. Minutes of last meeting read and‘ apâ€" proved. Accounts were presented and ordered paid. A petition was present- ed from Chas. Wing, asking leave to open a billiard parlor in Richmond Hill. Mr. Hopper gave notice thatl he would introduce a By-law at the‘ next meeting of Council for licensing, itgulating and governing all persons keeping billiard tables in the Village. ;Moved by Mr. Law, seconded by Mr. iMo-odive, that the time for the return ;of the Collector’s Roll be extended to ‘ythe 3lst December. Messrs. Joseph ‘Powell and John Boyle addressed the Council, asking that a change be made in the management of the Village Pound. The Council adjourned till Tuesday, 30th of December. Miss Hazel Hambly has organized a. C.G.I.T. Group. The first meeting was held on Friday evening. The annual meeting of the W.M.S. of the United Church was held on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. M. Winter. Excellent reports were given by each department. The teachers with their] classes occupied the centre seats of lthe church at the morning service. IA Sunday School choir led: in the‘ Sin‘ing' and also rendered a Christ- mas anthem and the Sunday School quartette sang very acceptably. Mr. Cyril Dyson was the special speaker ' and gave a most interesting address ‘ on “Character Building." The pastor ' was in charge of the evening service. His subject was “Stars that lead to ' Christ.” Little Violet Rochester, one ' of the Sunday School Scholars, sang ' at the evening service. I l l l The White Gift service was well responded towand contributions still continue to come in. It is hoped that they will gladden many homes at this joyous Christmas Season. The Girls Mission Circle contrib- uted a number of prettin dressed 0.0115 to the Chinese Mission on Elm St, Toronto, for their annual Christ- mas Tree. The Y.P.S. met last Monday eve-â€" ning with a fine attendance. After the devotional period the election of officers was conducted by the pastor. The officers for 1935 are: Honorary President, Rev. The next meeting of the Y. P‘S. will be held the 7th January. Special Christmas Services will be {held in Newtonbrook United Church ln-ext Sunday, at 11 a.m.and 7 pm. lThe choir will render suitable music for the occasion under the leadership of Mr. W. McMullen, and Mr. Roy [Dobney of Toronto at the organ. The evening service will take the form of a Christmas Carol Service. Six members of the 48th Highlanders Band will assist in the playing of‘ the carols and will also give duets on‘ cello and violin, also quartettes. iThose who have heard them play over CKCL every morning this week at ‘8.40 will have the privilege of meet- iing them in person next Sunday eve- ning if they come to this service. There will be bright Christmas music. Mrs. Eerl Bales will also sing. Come and enjoy .an evening of sfired music .and carol singing.
