So far not a single person has de- clared h‘s intention of contesting any office/ and it looks now as if next Monday night will see the 1934 coun- cil returned by acclamaticn. The terms of five members of the in mar ent‘re z The-terms of five members of the Board of Education expire December 31‘st. The three elected members whose time is up at the end of this year are, trustees P. E. Angle, L. A. Hill and A. D. Buchanan. It is likely all three will seek re-election and to date no one has declared the intention of opposing them. Trustee T. H. Trench who is a county appointee and trustee J.‘ F. Atkinson an apâ€" pointee of the Village council also complete their appointed term at the end of the year. However, if things municipal are quiet in Richmond Hill there is plenty of election talk in the'neighboring townships. In Vaughan township Reeve George Kellam, who is said to be sure of the 1935 York County Wardenship if he returns as Vaugh- an‘s mepreserytative, is seeking re- election and according to persistent rumor he will have opposition. Ex- Reeve James Robson is likely to be his opponent and if there is! an elecâ€" tion there will likely be a general change about with several new as- pirants for the council seats. Coun- cillor Robert W. Scott is a. likely contender for the office of deputy- neeve and it will not be known until nomination day just what move the present deputyf-reeve Robert W. Dooks will make. He will have his choice of contesting the deputy- neeveship with councillor Bob Scott or stepping up and contesting the reeveship in a probable three corner- ed fight. It is likely councillors Dun- can McMurchy and Boynton Weld- rick will seek reâ€"election to seats on the council. Then there are rumors of several new aspirants, but just how many of them materialize will be known nomination day. ven a In Markham township, also it looks like another election year. Former councillor Fred A. Coakwell, who hasi served some six years in the council,‘ has announced that he is a candidate for deputy-reeve in which case it is likely deputy-reeve Will Clark will be a candidate for reeve. It is un- derstood Reeve G. B. Padget will seek reâ€"election and whether or not there will be a third candidateremains to be seen. The appointment of Chanles Hoover, a member of council, as treas urer leaves a vacant chair for which it is anticipated there will be several aspirants. Councillors Rennie and Hooper will probably be candidates for re-election. Among the list of probable candidates prominently men tioned are ex-reeve W. C. Gohn and former deputyâ€"reeve R. L. Stiver. In North York Township, Reeve Earl Bales and all members of the 1934 council have opposition and a lively campaign is now under way in the southern township. Nomination meetings in the town- ships will be held next Monday af- ternoon and in Richmond Hill Village the nomination m-‘eting is in the eve- In King Township it is very likely there will be a. contest for the var- ious offidesv and an election fight looms as a probability in Whitchurch ning‘ NEW YEAR’S DANCE The annual New Year’s Dance will be held in the Community Hall, Maple, Tuesday, January lst. A White Gift service was held in the United Church by the Sabbath School on Sunday afternoon. Special Christmas slides were shown on the screen after the service on Sunday evening. The concert in the Masonic Hall on Thursday evening by the pupils and ex-pupils of Hope Public School was very successful. Miss Doris Cook, who assisted in training the pupils and acted as accompanist, was preâ€" sented with a beautiful evening purse and an address. and an address was read to the teacher, Mr. H. McDonald, and a presentation of a belt and fancy buckle. The program consisted of plays, drills, choruses and pageants and was very much enjoyed by all. A very lengthy but excellent pro- gram was given On Friday night by the Presbyterian and the United Church Sabbath Schools and the pupils of the Public School. Pageants drills, etc., were given and all were much appreciated. Addresses were read and presentations were made to the teachers, Miss Reaman and Mr. Carter, during the evening. Mr. Hastings of Sesekenika Lake called on Mr. H. C. Bailey one day last week. At the annual meeting of the Worm. en’s Missionary Society all of the officers» were 1-e-elected f_or the com- ing year. After the morning service at Hope on Sunday one of Santa Claus’ as- sistants appeared and presented the junior pupils with gifts from an il- luminated Christmas Tree.
