There was a capacity crowd at the Garden Party last week and every- one enjoyed the Strawberries and splendid supper provided. Owing to rain the entertainment was held in- doors when Woodbridge players pre- sented their play “Step on it Stan” to a large and well pleased audience. The Silver Trumpet Band was fre~ quently encored. Altogether the fes- tival held this year was one of the best on record. Misses Elma, Florence and Laura McCluskey were here for the garden party. While Rev. D. Davis is superintend- ing‘ the Boys Camp at Lake Simcoe Rev. Terryberry will have charge of the work here. Mr. and Mrs. Palmer and family, Newmarket, visited with Mr. and Mrs Chas. Diceman on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs; Shuttleworth Illinois have been spending- a or so with Mr. and Mrs. Chas. man. The pupils and friends of the Sixth Line School held their picnic at the farm of A. Ireland. Owing to anniversary activities the Young People’s Society had a short vacation but on Sunday evening there was an interesting meeting. Miss M. Oliver was in charge. The guest speaker was Miss Marguerite Ezard who took up the work and a short account of the Life of Pauline John- ston, the Indian Poetress. Readings from her poems “The Song my Paddle Sings,” “Wolverine,” and “Canadian Born" illustrated the writings of this truly great Canadian poetress. Mr. H. Stanford of Richmond Hill spent Tuesday evening with Mr. J. W. Bentley. Mr. and Mrs. Spence are visiting Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Herman, Edgar Avenue. Messrs. Leonard and Frank Millard, Jack Hill Jr. went on an enjoyable weekâ€"end excursion to Three Mile Lake where they spent an enjoyable and successful fishing trip on the Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Millard, Mr. Young and Bernice Bentley spent the holiday week-end at their summer cottage, Rice Lake. Mrs. Royal of Hamilton is spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Bailey Spruce Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. S. Beales of Toronto accompanied by Mrs. Swanston and Mrs. Williams spent July ls’c With Mr. and Mrs. Fan-ants, Spruce Ave. Mrs. W. J. Baker and daughter Audrey have been spending a. few days with friends in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Bailey and Mr. Scar- let spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Scarlet of Keswick. Lillian and Joan LeBar of Toronto are visiting for a week or two with their grandmother Mrs. Koning of Spruce Avenue. Mr. Jacob Koning spent the holiday with a party of friends at Wabbasso Beach. The Sunday ‘School picnic will be held at Lake Wilcox on Wednesday, July 24th, leaving the church about 1.30 pm. Daylight Saving Time. The Sunday School held their reg- ular session at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday with a. good attendance of scholars. The church service at 3.30 p.m. was in charge of Rev. McDonald who preached a very good sermon taking his text from Hebrews 13, verse 8, “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday and to-day and forever.” As Mr. Mc- Donald is going away for two months it was decided to close the church for that time. There will be no church service therefore during July and August but will start again in September.
