Savage, the present‘ IReeve, will not be a candidate for municipal honors next year. He made this announcement about a year ago and he has not since changed his mind. Mr. Savage has done faithful work as a member of the Council for 25 years in succession, and it_is only reasonable that he de- sires a rest. The Provincial Government a few days ago reported that they could not confirm the by-law passed by the County Council throwing the main- tenance of the York roads on to the local municipalities. This decision, which we consider a just one, was received with much satisfaction by the residents of this section of country. On Saturday morning Mr. George Chauncey, for the past ten years postmaster at Newmarket died at his residence in that village. at the age of 47. He was a native of New- foundland, and came to Canada 2? years ago. Several years before reâ€" ceiving the appointment of post- master he owned and edited The Markham Sun. The hopes and plans of those who are dependent on their daily earnings suffer a. severe reverse when sickness comes. There is one disease more dreaded than any othnr. It, is consumption.
