Phone RA. 5429 The new station for the James Bay Railway will soon be complet- ed. The roof is shingled and the new building- presents a good appearance. A meeting of the Village Council was held Tuesday evening. The meet- ing was called principally for the purpose of considering the advisa- bility of widening Centre Street east from Church Street to the James Bay Railway. All the members of the council were present as well as a large number of ratepayers. Reeve Crosby gave a statement as to what was proposed to be done. Centre Street calls for a width of 33 feet, and it was proposed to widen it by securing 10 feet more on the south side of the street. The reeve stated that W. H. Pugsley had offered to sell a strip along the front of his property 80 rods long and 10 feet deep, equal to about 50 square rods for $50, the council to erect a wire. fence. A. Moodie would sell about‘ 71/.» rods, and erect his own fence‘ for $50. W. Sheppard would sell his front, about 3 square rods for $50, and put up a fence. Councillor Sanderson was prepared to say that a strip 0 'ned by the Methodist Church coul be purchased at a rea- sonable rate, and R. Durham would sell his at as fair a rate as the other property owners. Mr. Pugsley’s of- fer was considered to be reasonable, but the option of some of the others was scarcely satisfactory. A resoluâ€" tion was therefore passed unani- mously appointing the council a comâ€" mittee of the whole to further in- terview the property owners with a view of purchasing the required land on the basis offered by Mr. Pugsley. Historic Farm Sold Last Saturday’s Globe gave some interesting information relative to real estate deals. With others it mentions the following:â€"“The St. George farm just north of Bond Lake, and including Wilcocks Lake, ers- of the St. George farm property. owner, for $25,000. The farm and lake cover an area of 400 acres, and it is generally understood that the Toronto and York Radial Company, which at present control the Bond Lake property, are the real purchas~ ers of the St. George farm property. This farm and house are among York County’s historic properties. Before the beginning of the last century a band of French loyalists under Jos- 'eph Genevieve, Comte de Puisaye, 'attempted to form a colony in this locality. The attempt was destined to pitiable failure because the French emigres made poor back woodsmen. Many of them returned to the old land, but in 1846 or 1847 Quentin St. George, 9. son of one of the original French pioneers, came from France to claim his father’s estate, then amounting‘to some 26,- 000 acres, which gradually dwindled, being cut up into smaller farms, un- til in a few years only the name remained.” MULOCK PICNIC AUG. 22ND The foundation is now being laid for the tank which will be about forty feet high, the timber for which at- rived Tuesday. The water will be forced into the tank from a nearby spring by means of a gasoline en- gine. Carpenters will commence building the new freight house in a few days.
