They seem to wear well and their salary is 'now $7.500 per week of five, fif- teen-minutes "broadcasts. Their week- ly audience is estimated at 40 mil]- ions. Possibly their program is no- thing out of the ordinary, it is very Human and has always been clean. Perhaps this accounts for their con- tinued popularity. Iieve it is last year’s colt, arid if it keeps on growing at this rate its young owner will have a full-grown o£se to look after instead of a play- ful little colt. Many jokes dealing with thrift have been written around the Scot- tish people. Sir Harry Lauder once said, “Maybe you’ll be wanting my definition of the difference betWeen thrift and sti‘ng-iness. Thrift is keep- ing your money in your pooch hiding the day when you’ll need it. Stingi- ness is putting a padlock on your pocket â€" and your heart â€" to keep from helping the other chap when he’s needing it.” Dundalk is boasting of a mammoth colt, owned by a young son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Lepart of that disâ€" trict. The day the animal was one year old, it stood 13% hands high, had a girth measurement of 5 feet 10 inches and weighed 920 pounds, almost twice as much as the aver- age colt of its age. The smart lads can’t go ahead until the dull ones review today’s lesson. North Yonge Radials showed an operating loss of $169.21 for the Month of March. Revenue for the month was $5,524.83 as compared with $5,682.97 in the same month last year. ' The Dog Show at Richmond Hill Fair will attract the best in many classes from all parts of the Dominâ€" ion and many points in the United States. Crops have been planted under exâ€" cellent conditions and now as their city friends say the farmers have nothing to do but wait for the har- vest. I Farmers throughout York County report seeding operation almost com- pleted. It was- a wonderful spring for getting things done and the “land never worked better”. Forgive me, Lord, if I should jest too much, There is enough of grief without my tears; If fools alone seek peace in laugh- ter’s touch, Let me be one, and be more wise ‘ than seers. Which of all Thy creatures knows rnot pain? Yet none save we poor mortals have been blessed With mirth. So let me my heritage retain In laughter’s joyous strength. I only jest At my own self, and f0r a little while, And ask no blessing abut the right~ to smile. Mr. Harrison has purchased a rough-cast house on Trench Street lfrom Mr. Rollen, and will move it lonto the Harrison lot, corner Rich- i mom! and Elizabeth streets. Councillor Edward Barker is the first in the Village to» have a ripe tomato. The plant came up of its own free will in a flower pot and grew rapidly, being now several feet high. There are three fair-sized toâ€" matoes on the vine, and the one which is ripe is perfect in shape and color. Messrs. L. Innes & Sons have purâ€" chased the old Daville tanner-y at the south part of Aurora and have commenced tearing it down. The re- moval of that old land mark will not take from the beauty of that town, ‘as the old building had been in a dilapidated condition for some time. ‘ Mr. H. A. Nicholls has received notice from Mr. J. Lockie Wilson, Supt. of Agricultural Societies, that the Richmond Hill and Yonge Street agricultural Society has, by speciaI legislation. become incorporated as an agricultural society under the pro- visions of The Agricultural Societies Act to be known as The Richmond Hill Agricultural Soeiety, having its headquarters at Richmond Hill. An early car to which is attached a milk conveyance now leaves here every morning at 7 o’clock, arriving in Toronto at 8. The fire broke out in the grinding house, a Ibuilding where the tan bark is ground up pre- vious to going into the vats. The whistle was 'blown and soon a large crowd congregated and did good. work as a bucket brigade. The building was burn-ed, but the fire was kept from the main building, thereby sav- ing a very large amount of prOperty. The fire is ‘supposed to have been caused Iby the heating of same of the machinery. I Mr. Silas Shunk of Sherwood, a. 'former High School boy here, joined" the army of benedicts yesterday when 'he was joined in marriage to Miss Jennie Blough of Teston. The cere- mony was performed by Rev. Mr. Cooking of King City, after which the young couple started on a trip westward. On 'their return they Will take up housekeeping in the Village of Wood‘bridge. Mr. James McDougall, county e‘n- g-imeer, last week made a prelimin- ary survey along the route of the proposed steam railway between Schomberg and Aurora, and between Schomber-g and Richmond Hill. The engineer purposes starting active op- erations at once. This seems to look 'as if Richmond Hill were to be made ‘the terminus of another railway in the near future.
