Hallbert and Mr. W. T. New attended a banquet meeting of the Scooters, Rovers and Com- mittee men of the North Yong'e area last Tuesday evening at Willowda‘le United Church. The guest speaker was Colonel Russell Locke, K.C., the Provincial Commissioner for Scout- ing in Ontario. The Young People’s Union of New- tonbrook United Church were enter- tained by the Y.P.U. of Th'ornhill United Church last Tuesday evening and a very enjoyable evening was spent. A Temperance Service was held in Newtonbrook United Church last Sunday morning when the contest- ants from the local Sunday School who took part in the North York Temperance Federation Oratorical Contest gave their orations to an appreciative congregation. At the close Dr. J. P. Wilson of Richmond Hill, president of North York Tempâ€" erance Federation, presented the sil- ver cups. Miss Dorothy Hurdl re- ceived the Dr. Boyd silver cup for the Senior Group and Miss Evelyn Hurd received the John Wark silver cup for the Intermediate Class with‘ the nnames engraved on each cup. Dr. Wilson also presented the winâ€" ners with a miniature silver cup for to keep for themselves. The Woman’s Association will be hostesses at an “Irish Supper” this (Thursday) evening in the United Church S. S. Hall at 6.45. Dr. John F. Davidson of Upper Canada Colâ€" lege will be the guest supper sneak- er. A musical program will follow. Miss Dorothy Hurdl. Miss Evelyn Carnes and Miss Shirley Pope Were speakers at a Temnxerance Rally in Richmond Hill United Church last Sunday evening. Next Sunday even.- ing they are invited to give their Temperance orations in King City United Church. The death of Mrs. Annie Rise- brough, widow of the late William Risebrough, occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ernest Bone at Cari-ville last Thursday, March 9th, after a lingering illness with a heart condition. The late Mrs. RisebrOugh was a resident of Newton'brook for a number of years and! was highly respected by all. She leaves to mourn her loss: four sons and one daughter. The funeral service was held at Wright and Taylor’s Funâ€" era} Home, Richmond, Hill last Sun- day afternoon with Rev. A. H. Hal- bert officiating. Interment was in- Thornhill cemetery. 'Mr. Paul Morris of Newtonbrook, who is now attending Toronto Bible College addressed the Young People’s Union last Monday evening. He told of his experiences on a Mission Field in Northern Saskatchewan last sum- mer. His address was illustrated! with lantern slides which made it very interesting. He hopes to re- turn to the same Mission Field next summer. The meeting was in charge of Miss Doris Newson, missionary convenor. Among the' delegates who attended the Provincial Temperance Federa- tion Convention in Toronto last week were Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Galbraith, Mr, and Mrs. W. T. New, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Grisdale, Rev. A large number from here attend- ed the funeral of the late Mrs. Annie Ri‘svebrough at Richmond Hill last Sunday afternoon. The Girls’ Mission Circle will hold their March meeting next Tuesday evening, March 2lst, at the Parson- age. Each girl is asked to bring a new member. Union of Toronto Centre Presbytery Sub- urban Area will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday evening at the home of Rev. and' Mrs. Halbert. The Young Men’s Bible Class of the United Church Sunday School was entertained last Wednesday ev- ening at the home of their teacher, Mr. W. T. Wells, and all spent a very enjoyable evening.
