In reply to “Weary Taxpayer", may I first state that it is a well» known maxim that one gets out of Life exactly what one puts into it. If one cannot adopt a tolerable atti- tudJe to situations that call for a remedy, the remedy lies only in the individ‘ual himselrf. There is no doulbt that weary tax- payer needs enlightening. First, the bowling club is not a collection of wealthy men, nor is it a money- making concern. The only aims of a bowling club are to provide some quiet and enjoyable recreation for a person of average means, as well as the value derived: from associat- ing one with another in competitive sport. Ed‘itor, The Lilb era], Sir:â€" Letters from The Peo pie Next, may I point out that our neighbouring town to the north thinks so well of its Ibowling' chflb andI its service to the community that the club pays» neither taxes, light nor water. Surely by no stretch of imagination. are they giving the club these privileges if they were not assured that the cause was just and' worthy. Now I wonder hanestly if the writâ€" er of the letter would' be prepare& to pay forty-two dollars and: some cents taxes on a property with no frontage on any street. The bowl:- ing club has done a little research and we have found that our taxes, light and' Water are all away higher than any club north of Toronto. In fact, they are almost double what other clubs pay. Our club feels that some adjustment is only fair. The only alternative is that we cannot meet this high overhead and! pass out of existence. Finally I must say that the writ- er goes far afield to bring- in the expenses of a lawsuit. I fail to see what that has to do with the bowl- ing clwb situation. Most certainly I agree that there are two Sides to every situation but why not try and go half way toward a reasonable attitude and solution.
