G. E. Foster and others. Mr. W. T. Storey Jr. who com- pleted his three years at The Lib- eral office a couple of weeks ago started this week for Beamsville where he has taken a position as compositor and local reporter for the Beamsville Express. Mr. F. A. Legge, Bond Lake Farm, Jefferson, was most successfiul at the Canadian National Exhibition this year, capturing nine ribbons with his herd of seven Holstein cattle. For 3-year-old bull and OVer he got first prize, senior championship silver medal, and grand champion and Mr. W. Magee has opened his new cider mill at Boyle‘s pond, and is prepared to make cider every day of the week. THIRTY YEARS AGO From our Issue of Sept. 15th, 1910 ‘Mr. H. A. Nicholls, Real Estate Agent, has sold during the week Mr. Matthew Patton’s two acres on Mill Street to Mr. John Blanchard. This, in addition to the six acres lately purchased by John from Mr. Matthew McNair, will give him a block of eight acres which will be cultivated for gardening purposes. From our Issue of Sept. 20th, 1900 Vaughan Council met at Vellore on Tuesday, September 11th at 1 pm. The reeve in the chair. Mem- bers present: Messrs. Kirby, Watson and Malloy. Minutes of last meet- ing read and confirmed. The treas- urer was ordered to pay road ac- counts presented. Malloy-Kirby â€" That the Treasurer pay H. PINE GROVE RED CROSS RAISE MORE THAN $100 In a splendid war work effort on behalf of their organization, Pine Grove Red Cross members raised a sum estimated at well over $100 at a special evening in Fundale Park Hall last Tuesday. A draw for a knitted afghan was won by Miss Bertha Whitmore, Woodlbridge, and another draw for a quilt was won by Mervin Kaiser, of Kleinburz. Prize winners in euchre were as fol- lows: Ladies, lst, Miss Mary Bell; 2nd, Mrs. H. N. Smith; 3rd, Mrs. F. W. Hutt. Gents, lst, F. Bean; 2nd, Alfred Thompson; 3rd, R. New- ton. The same night the contractor became involved in a killing and was sent to jail for seven years. On his release he got on with the job. Mrs. James Logie of North Tor- onto who recently celebrated her Golden Wedding has knitted 124 pairs of socks since the outbreak of the war. Registrars of motor _vehic1es throughout the province have receiv- ed word that markers and drivers‘ Licenses will not be issued until Reg- istration Cards have been produced. The following notice was inserted in a farm weekly: “Anyone found near my chicken house at night will be found there the next morning." At a Stalybridge, Eng. police court, a constalble charged a motor- ist with giving a girl companion two miles of kisses. The incident took place while the motorist was driv- ing the girl. He was fined $15 for not having proper control of the car. A wit in court commented that, at any rate he had proper control of the girl! When Arthur C. Grantham, Jr. of Fall River, Mass., received a $2 poll tax bill, his father was amazed. And well he might be!...Arthur Jr. is only 8 months old. An Arkansas editor displayed un- usual tact when, in a recent issue he published the following “person- al”: “Miss Mary Blank, of Bates- ville, a belle of twenty summers, is visiting her twin brother, William, aged 32”. York County is experiencing the atest harvest in many years. J. Elmer Anderson, of Portland, Conn., is an angler and probably knows a good deal about “fish stor- ies”, so when he caught two good- sized fish the other day, he took no chances on anyone calling the story of his catch “fishy”. He hied him- self to a notary public, displayed his catch and obtained a sworn legal statement proving that he caught two bass weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces and 6 pounds 2 ounces respectively.
