This compares favorably with an operat- ing 'profit of $351.89 in August 1939. Passenger revenue for the month totalled $6,765.06, an increase of 10.32 per cent over the corresponding month last year when the revenue was $6132.44: Operating expenses - showed an increase of $26.00. Counâ€" - 'iciI-lor-R. B. Wmted on the "fact that monthly reports varied a great deal. “Why,†he asked,- “do we have substantial losses seme months and then all of a sudden have a surplus.†Reeve Trench said he- thought it was caused by fluc- tuation of operating expense, more than revenue. “Some months a lot of extra. work is done on the tracks,†he said. “The extra expense can't be for cutting weeds,†remarked councillor Middleton. “Sometimes I wonder how the cars ever find their way through them." Reeve Trench said increased employment in the district had boosted the passenger revenue. Richmond Hill and Vaughan Vote Lon Two__Y_ear Term By-laws providing for giving the ratepayers of Richmond Hill Village and the Township of Vaughan an 0p- portunity of expressing their Wish regarding the proposed extension of “the term of municipal couriCils, were 1 lamb killed $6.00; John Page) 2 passed at meetings of councils for lthese municipalities last Monday. This means the ratepayers of these municipalities next January will have the opportunity of saying whe- ther or not they wish to elect mun- icipal councils for two years instead bf one. If council does not pass the necessary hyâ€"law the two year term automatically comes into effect in 1941. Councils of Richmond Hill and Vaughan were unanimous in the view that in a matter so important. the ratepayers should have the right to make the decision, and not the members of council. Markham Town- ship council has not yet passed the by-law extending to the ratepayers the privilege of voting on the two year term, but it is expected they will do so before the end of the year. UNITED CHURCH EVENING AUXILIARY . The Evening Auxiliary of the W. MS. of the United Church will meet at the home of Miss Evelyn Follett, Centre Street East, on Tuesday, Oc- tober 15th at 8 p.in. There will be special music and a Thanksgiving message will be given by Mrs. Gee.
