Pre aid FAMILY GET-T0 ETHERTICKETS PAGE SIX GREETINGS A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A BRIGHT :5 AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL THE PEOPLE OF RICHMOND HILL AND DIS- #5 SCI. to $1 StOre HlLE we celebrate this Season of Goodwill in comfort, our brothers, sisters and comrades across the sea live 'neath the shadow of death . . . death let loose from the skies by the monstrous hordes of Nazidom and Paganism. At this season we are particularly reminded of the debt we owe to those whose service and sacrifice make it possible for us to enioy our Christmas midst the carefree happiness of children and fond parents . . . those valiant men who patrol the skies, man the ships, stand by the guns, and place their all â€" even unto life itself, between us and the enemy. How can we pay our debt to them? The least we can do is to Save every dollar that we can and lend it to Canada, so that Canada can provide everything in munitions and equipment to fortify these men for the defence of our country and our civilization. RICHMOND HILL, ONT. Our savings should be invested in War Savings Certificates, and we should continue to save and invest in War Savings Certificates until Victory is won. The widow's mite counts as much as the more fortunate ones' plenty, as evidence of service, sacrifice and determination. So then, whatever else you do at this Christmas season, save and invest in War Savings Certificates. The very consciousness of your service in the Defence of your homeland will make greater your personal enjoyment of Christmas. 52%91§3%5§9%9§L§9%£§9€9§9§%9€% W. H. I FARE AND A THIRD When little Junior comes to you, And climbs upon your knee, And looks right up into yOur eyes, As earnest as can be; With little lips a-quiver, And heart that seems to pause, He says, “Now tell me, Daddy, Ain’t there no Santa Claus?” Then you just start a-talking, Be sure to make it stick, And say, “There is a Santa Claus; Sometimes he‘s called St. Nick." And say, “If there's no Santa ClaUS. How on earth would little boys, Get stockings filled with candy, And lots of pretty toys? And how would little sister Get dolls and other things, If it were not for Santa Claus That Christmas always brings? He’s really with us always, Though he’s strampled in life’s race; At Christmas time he pops up, And assumes his proper place. You can’t see dear old Santa Claus. But he’s with us just the same, Dispensing love and kindness, Under a different name. Thank God, there is a Santa Claus, I wish that he might be As prominent throughout the year, As he is ’round the tree.” â€"-â€"An0nymous. ONTARIO :01/78 t Phone 242 gLetlers From The People Editor Sir:â€" The pupils of the Richmond Hill Public School are greatly interested in the rink the boys are making in the school yard. The trouble is that some of them have no skates and Santa may not be able to bring them any. One pair in a family of four or five is not very satisfactory. They thought a message in The Liberal might solve their trouble. So here it is. If anyone has a pair of skates they do not want and cannot find a little girl or boy to give them to, just send them to the Public School or my place, 3 Centre St. W., and we will be pleased to pass them along. COMMENDS SPIRIT OF AIRMAN'S LETTER IN LAST ISSUE Editor, The Liberal Dear Sir:â€" I enclose my subscription for next year for The Liberal. I enjoy your paper very much, and particularly I want to tell you how much I appre- ciated reading the letter from an Air- man to his mother, which appeared in your last issue. It was one of the finest expressions of true British devotion and loyalty I have ever read, That is the spirit which has made our Empire great. I would suggest that School Boards every- where in Canada should supply cop- ies to the schools. HAVE YOU ANY SKATES NOT IN USE? Buy Canadian, Buy British, and Help Win the War. The Liberal Thank you, M. L. McConaghy Thomhill, Dec. 16th SUBSCRIBER. MRS. F. AURORA BLACK PERCEPTORY ELECTS OFFICERS In a by-election on December a government candidate defeated a stop-the-war candidate by a vote of 16,587 to 1167. This was in North- ampton. England. Since there were more than 49,000 votes poled in this riding in the last general election, it can be thus seen that more than 32,000 voters didn’t think it worth wasting valuable time voting on an issue so ridiculous. In England thev intend to fight the war to a finish. Take notice that the adjourned tax sale will be held on Thursday, the 26th day of December AD. 1940 at the hour of 10 o’clock a.m. (Stand- ard Time) at the Township Hall, Unionville, Ontario.
