Miss Laura Kitchen, Toronto, was the week end guest of Mrs. Alfred Gillham. While here Miss Kitchen called on Mrs. W. Mason at Kinghorn who was glad to see her friend of many years ago. Miss Eileen Williams, daughter of1 Mr. George Williams, Laskay, is now showing signs of deï¬nite improve- ment after three surgical operation: in a Toronto hospital. Eileen has been in hospital for some time, and will continue there until she is quite recovered from an illness which be- gan three months ago. The illness has been one of great concern to her parents, who have spent much time attending the hospital for her regard, as her condition was considered very grave for some time. Despite these worries, Mr. and Mrs. Williams haVe given holiday pleasure to others, when a'Toronrto Y.M.C.A. group of under-privileged boys spend three days weekly at Taffy Hollow Park, the Williams property, which is loan- cd for use of less fortunate children. Twenty Hester Howe Boy Scouts spent a week at Taffy Hollow, at- tending Laskay United church for service on July 25th. Other groups are expected to use the Park during August. Mrs. Williams states she and her husband take pleasure in of- fering the Park area to those who might not otherwise ï¬nd! outings available. About 50’ Boy Scouts are expected to-occup‘y Taffy Hollow at the end of August. The traditional name Taffy Hollow dates away back when a plate of"brown sugar tafl’y was set out to cool and “by chance†was claimed by the neighbor boys, who “snook off†with the toothsome food after dark. Laskay thrived on its pranks long ago, when pranks were only such and despicable inci- dents unknown, in the rural category of fun and frolic. The sam‘e‘ Spirit of wholesome fun still prevails about Tafl’y Hollow. Rev. King Legion Frolic and Carnival, Wednesday, August 25th, King Le- gion Branch, No. 438, will stage u monster ï¬eld day, carnival and dance in King Memorial Park. Extensive plans are in formation to carry out the second annual event designed to raise funds for legion beneï¬t work. Last year’s effort proved very satis- factory, and while at the moment We do not happen to have particulars (the holiday week-end usurping our information bureau) it is safe to as-l sume similar organized committees are working hard to promote an even bigger and better show in sports evâ€" ents, in the afternoon carnival fea- tures, draws and even=ng park dance. This colorful event, weather permit- ting, draws many hundreds of people, and the patronage of other legion ‘branches. President J. A. McGinnis of Maple and the branch executive have the co-opera‘tion‘ of the entire district community ,and the ladies in connectiOn with the legion play an equally important part, reinforced by others who are glad to act in sym- pathy with the cause. Reserve the date, August 25, for a day and even- ing of fun and frolic held in the ac- comodating' seclusion of King Mem- orial Park. Further information will be given out later. Laskay W. I.
