The community was deeply shock- ed and grieved on Saturday morning, August 14, at the news of the suc- den death of Mrs. John Hutchinson of Hope. Mr. and Mrs. John Hut- chinson attended the lacrosse game in Maple stadium on Friday evening where she suffered a heart seizure and was later taken home where she died in the early hours of Saturday morning. Mrs, Hutchinson, whose maiden name was Ellen Catherine Stone, was a native of Woodbridge and has been married for forty-three years. Although they had no fam- ily of their own, they raised a niece and nephew, Howard and Verna Piery, who now reside in Toronto. Mrs. Hutchinson was known as a “good” neighbour and her cheery laugh and many acts of kindness will be remembered for years to come. Interment took place on Tuesday at- ternoon in Maple Cemetery. The sympathy of the community is ex- tended to the bereaved husband and foster children, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Prince of Sud- bury spent .Civic Holiday week-end with their niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Arnbld Rumble. Mrs. Baxter of Decker, Manitoba, spent several days recently with her niece, Mrs. John Luce and family. Plans are in the making to serve me’als at the Old Boys’ Reâ€"union, September 3-4-5. Two meals on Sat- urday and one on Sunday to be set- ved in the Community Hall by the Ioc'al church‘W. A.’s and the Wom- en’s Insitute. With meals served at Maple Villa and John’s Coffee Shop émd other snack bars, no visitor to the Re-union should go hungry. The co-operation of all Maple housewives is being solicited to put this over. Your correspondent has always been on the alert for “unusual peop- le or events to record in our loea} news column. One of these unusual people in Maple is an 8 year old boy, Ray Rumble, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Rumble, who has done all the tractor work this year on his father’s 128 acre farm. Ray drives for all the harvest with the binder and also runs the blower for the threshing which is considered a. man’s job. Ray has also started tractor plowing and intends entering- this fall in the plowing competitions. Since he was 5 years old, Ray has also been a clever handler of horses, showing skill and cleverness, which is something many a grown man has never learned. Dear Friends ‘We wish to express our appreciation to the people of Mapie for their contributions towards the lovely chest of silver and radio. We‘ do hope that sometime in the near future you will be able to visit us at our apartment on No. 8 Maple Avenue, Aurora, Ont. Thanking you all again, Yours sincerely, Evelyn and Bill Summers (nee Evelyn Miller) The August meeting of Maple Wo- men’s Institute was held Tuesday eyening, August lloth, at the home of Mrs. Donald Allen. The ladies voted to purchase additional croquet mall- ets and balls for Hope'and Patterson schools. Two members were ap- pointed to meet the Lions Club ex- ecutive to discuss meals to be ser- ved at the “Old Boys Reunion” Sept. 3â€"4-5. An appeal for funds for the Boy Scout Camp at Orangeville was tabled until the ladies could consult the local scoutmaster. Mrs. T. Jack- son, convenor of Home Economics, gave a talk on cocoa and chocolate, telling where grown, how manufac- tured, etc., and discussed recipes which were given in a booklet called “Have you tried these with chocol- ate?” which she had prepared. Mrs. Jackson showed samples which she had prepared from the recipes in the booklet. The ladies enjoyed a sing:- song and lunch was served by the committee. sincere I CANADIANS JUDGE . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. U.S.A. PLOWING For the first time on record, Cana- dians were invited to judge at a plowing demonistration- across the border held last week near Belmont, New York. The invitation came from the State Agricultural Dept. and Mr. W. L. Clark, last year’s president of the Ontario Plowmen’s Association and Councillor Win Tim- bers of Markham Township, were appointed FINE UNION ATTENDANCE Substantial attendance is marking union services bung held in Wood- bridge United Church during the first four Sundays of August. The union services are being conducted by Rev. Dr. John A. Ross, pastor of the Pesbyterian Church. During July, Rev. V. Hart of the United Church had conducted union services in the Presbyterian Church. Only four pews were unoccupied in the United‘ Church last Sunday morning, which is regarded as a creditable at- tendance showing during the vaca- tion season.
