NORTH YORK TOWNSHIP LEADS IN BUILDING The North York Township build. ing department ï¬gures show the to- tal value of building permits from January 151: to July 3lst, 1948, was $12,566,970 as compared with $6,- 109,870 for the same period in 1947, an increase of $6,457,100. “I believe these building ï¬gures show that the Township of North York is the leading municipality in Canada as far as building is con- cerned,†commented Reeve George The housing situation in North York has beneï¬itted by 1,353 h0uses this year, an increase of 810 from last year’s ï¬gures of 543. TAX‘ES‘ INCREASED Despite the increased cost of ser- vices, plus better service demanded. the tax rate in the township of Whit- church for 1948 will not be advanced seriously. The general rate is in- creased one and two-tenths mills for 1948 over the rate that prevailed in 1947. The county rate is advanced three-tenths of a mill, and the High School Area rate is 2 mills. This is the ï¬rst area levy and replaces a high school tax of 1.7 mills, an inâ€" crease of threeâ€"tenths. There will be only one change on the teaching staff \of Wooï¬bridge public school when the autumn term opens in September. Miss Frances Johnson of Toronto will succeed Miss Mary‘ Bowes as teacher of Grades 2 and 3, it has been announced by the principal, H. H. Sawdon.
