The North York Major Soft- ball League play-ofi's got under way for us Tuesday, August 30, at Schomberg when Aurora beat Langstafl' 11 to 3. This game was played under lights which unfor- tunately we do not have on our home ground where the second game was played Thursday, Sep- tember 2. The Score then was 6-6, and had to be left at that point because darkness made fur- ther play impossible. The stand- ing from these two games is 1 for Aurora and 1 tie. Aurora and Langstaff play five games, the best 3 out of 5 deciding the win- ner. The third game is sched- uled for Tuesday, September 6, at Schomberg, which will have to be reported next time. We believe there is a home game the evening this issue appears and in view of the fact that it isn’t possible to give the fans definite advance in- formation about the dates, may we suggest that you check each day when you pick up your mail. When asked for a, few famous words, Pitcher Bill Bowen replied, “From now on, we’ll be after their hides.” Sounds gruesome but in- teresting. The Langstaff team is made up of Bill Bowen as pitcher (pre- viously mentioned); Norm Bowen, catcher; Jimmy Hughes, lst base; Morty Charles, 2nd base; Sunny Charles, shortstop; Vern Majurie Phone Richmond Hill 359r11 WIRING Interior & Exterior M1 Decorator Elm Grove Oak Ridges or King 84r4 IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII General Farm Implements, Washing Machines, Refrigerators â€" Domestic, Deep-freeze, Walk-ins & Counter JAMES J. WORSDALE and LINE WORK Telephone Thornhill 257r12 Mr. and Mrs. H. LeMasurier Sr. were away at their cottage at Arnstein on Seagull Lake in the Parry Sound District, and had their grandsons, Peter and Harry, with them for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Alf LeMasurier and Murray had a holiday at Arnstein too. The two boys had another week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry LeMasurier, and with their grand- mother, Mrs. Alexander Baird, and uncle, Mr. Jack Baird of Oak- ville. There was plenty of var- iety in the weather with days of summer heat and nights like win- ter. and “a good time was had by Members of the Markham-Un- ionville Lions Club are sponsoring a free X-ray clinic for the discov- ery of tuberculosis. We would like to give a young man on Garden Avenue a pat on the back. Peter Ward, who was in Grade 7 at St. Mary's School last year, was told two weeks be- fore the Entrance Examinations were due to start that he could try them. He did and was suc- cessful and this year he will be at- tending DeLaSalle College. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ament of Fairview Avenue, on the arrival of a son. The sudden cold blasts felt Monday evening are those which came down from Hearst near Kap- uskasing in Northern Ontario in the car of Mrs. Ohlis and her three sons, Bob, Eddie and Fred. They have had frosts for the past two weeks at home, and our warm week-end weather was quite a surprise to them. Mrs. Ohlis and sons, along with a friend, Mr. Bob Hunt, are visiting this week and and next at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Shepherd, corner of Langstafl’ Road West and Fair- view Avenue. Mrs. Ohlis is Mrs. Shepherd’s mother. Further news of the Shepherd family is that ten year old Carolyn has just return- ed from a ten-day trip with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Shepherd Sr., of Yonge Blvd. Among other“ interesting places they visited Atlantic City, Ocean City and Philadelphia. Misses Gail Heathcote and Paula Knowles returned this week end after spending ten days at Plainfield, near Belleville, with Gail’s uncle, Mr. Connolley. She and her father had a short holiday there early in the summer. Mrs. Heathcote was to have accompan- ied her husband for a week end visit with her brother, but was prevented by illness. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Heathcote live on Ruggles Avenue. I We are sorry to learn of the sudden illness and passing of the four-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Kirby who have been living on the Milne West Farm for the past year. . The Home and School Club be- gins the new season with 3 Com- mencement to honour the recent graduates. This is to be held next Tuesday, September 13, at eight o’clock in the school. The speaker will be Mr. A. S. Elson, B.A., principal of Richmond Hill High School and two “ex-pupils” have kindly agreed to provide enter- tainment for the young people. Miss Marguerite Boyle is making one of her now rare personal ap- pearances and Miss Elsie Sara- bura is bringing along her piano accordion; Anyone wanting in- formation about joining the Home and School Club, can contact the membership convenor, Mrs. Harry LeMasurier at Thornhill 172J. We would like to congratulate Mr. and ’ Mrs. J. w. Little of Garden Avenue on two counts, first on becoming grandparents again with the birth on August 26 of Susan Jane to their daugh- ter, Janet, Mrs. Elvie Peters of Richmond Hill. Secondly Septem- ber 6 was Mr. and Mrs. Little’s thirtieth wedding anniversary. Over the week end Eric Little drove Mr. Peters Sr., his son Elvie and Mr. Donald Huntley to Hail- eybury where Miss Marilyn Peters had been visiting for three months with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Caron and her cousin, Alex. Mrs. Caron is a daughter of Mr. Peter Sn, and the Carons left Richmond Hill last year. i. an.» p.m. Each member will answer the roll call with her favourite C. N.
