REFRIGERATOR AUCTION SALE The property of Twenty-nine Outposts serve the people of Ontario. Your donation to the National Red Cross appeal for funds will help this great chain of mercy. The National ob- jective is $5,000,000. The Provin- cial objective is $2,000,000. You have the entire month of March to make your contribution. It is your share in the work of mercy. It happened on the lonely island of Clapperton in Lake Huron. The lighthouse keeper, William Baker, was awakened one night by a sev- ere pain in his right side. He tried to get up to go and signal for help from the tower, but he couldn’t move. For three days he lay there not caring if he lived or died, then suddenly he rmembered the light. The oil was running low and soon there would be no light to guide the ships through the darkness. He made a super- human efiort, dragged himself out of bed and attempted to crawl the 30 or 40 yards to the lighthouse. He collapsed with pain while still several yards from his goal. Five hours later a friend rowed up to the lighthouse to return?~ borrow- ed article. He took the sick man to Kagawong, iron the northern shore of the Manitoulin Island, and then by car to the Red Cross hos- pital at Mindemoya. Doctors there performed an emergency op- eration. Just as the lighthouse is a bea- con of hope to ships sailing the dark uncharted waters, so the Red Cross Outpost Ijospitals are a ray of hope to the people living in re- mote and isolated sections of the country. Engineers have nearly completed their survey of the north road into Lake Wilcox, it was disclosed. A long discussion on the school sit- uation at Lake Wilcox took place, with several of those present ex‘ pressing the belief that a portable school would provide an answer to the pressing problem. King 17R4 Ell-IIIIIIIIIIIIII The question of dogs and gar- bage, Mr. McCarron told the meet- ing, was being studied and develop- ments could be expected. [‘he question of new industries for the township, he said, was also being dealt with seriously. A decision to change the meeting to the first Tuesday in the month, in order to avoid conflict with other organizations, was made. Red Cross Outpnsts Act As Lighthouses For Men In Distress Many a life has been saved be- cause of the faithful light burning in the lighthouse . . . but in this case the light house keeper’s life was saved by the Red Cross. A suggestion that houses in the area should be numbered was ad- vanced by Dan Cook and a. com- mittee appointed to study the sub- ject. Ill. I'll-I'll...
