Hill 4.30 pm DAYS Several members of Mark-vaun Women’s Institute, formerly the Langstaf‘r‘ Homemaking Club, at- tended the April meeting of the Richmond Hill W.I. last Thursday afternoon. They were Mrs. A- Mathews, Mrs. A. Duncan, Mrs- G. Mills and Mrs. F. Stotts. The ladies greatly enjoyed the talk and films presented by Simpson’s Interâ€" ior decorating consultant. Mrs. F. Bickmore and Mrs. Jones still spend as many hours as‘ possible making scrapbooks for thei Sick Children’s Hospital. Mrs] Bickmore received a letter last week from Miss Jean Master, the Superintendent of Nurses which said “On behalf of the little pat- ients of this hospital I wish to ack- nowledge with thanks the lovely scrapbooks which you have so kindly sent them. Such kind thoughtfulness is very much ap- preciated." Cards have been sent to the ladies from distant places. including Winnipeg, as well as from many local homes and the supply needs constant replenishing so don’t throw away your old Mark-Vaun “1'. I. Scrapbooks For Sick Childrgn Richmond Hill Last Thursday evening, the Scout Mothers Auxiliary were hos- tesses to 151; Richmond Hill Boy Scout Troop, Scoutmaster Don Fet- tes; and to “A” Pack of the Cubs, Cubmaster Walter Smith; and to “B” Pack of the Cubs, Cubmaster Stan Tinker. It was a memorable evening for Larry Fryer, David Pattenden and George Styan of “A” Cub Pack, and Roger Wilson of “B” Cub Pack when in the traditional cere- mony of “Going up”, these iour boys left their cub brothers to be- come prospective Scouts. “B” Pack gave an interesting display of cub lore in showing some of the tests it is necessary to pass for their First Star. The feature entertainment was a visit from Constable Fox of the Horticultural Society Next Thursday’s meeting of the Thornhill Horticultural Society should be especially attractive to those whose ambition is to make their grounds add to the beauty and value of their proprty. , 1 Weather permitting, it-is hoped to have delphinium 'and pansy plants for sale_ as well as other perennials, shrubs, etc., which may be donated. Any surplus garden materials will be welcomed for in- clusion in the sale. -- 1‘ \Juun; . .. -..- _,, Members should advise Mrs. E. G. McKean, secretary-treasurer, immediately by mail or at the meeting of their preference of the options offered for this season. The choice is (a) 2 boxes of annuals or tomatoes, (b) box of delphinium seedlings, or (c) Chrysanthemums; and for juniors, Gladioli bulbs. Op- tions are distributed at the May meeting. Guides and Brbwnies The Local Association of Guides and Brownies is plafining a Tog- gery Sale on Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 pm. in the Un- ited Church Sunday School Hall. I Please see Coming Events for further details of meeting. The plan is to sell children’s and adults’ garments which are in good condition (freshly laundered or cleaned). Clothes which are outmoded, torn or stained or shrunken woollens are not saleable. Those which are simply outgrown but have plenty of wear left in them, it is felt sure will find ready buyers. Shoes and hats will not be included in the sale but spring and summer garments will be in great demand. Proceeds from the sale will be shared jointly' the donor receivâ€" ing 50% of what the garment sells for and the Local Assoeiation re- taining the other 50 per cent. Further details regarding pricâ€" ing of garments and addresses at which they may be left will ap- pear next week. Cubs and Scouts Tickets are on' sale this week for the Cubs and Scouts Theatre Night which is to be held a week next Thursday, May 3‘ in the base- ment of Trinity Church. In the temporary absence of the Scoutmaster, the two Tr00p Lead- ers, Jeff Jackson and Gerald Bill- erman are running the Troop. With the co-operation of the rest of the boys, everything is going along nicely we hear and all the lads seem to be enjoying the few weeks’ experience in “self-govern- ment” and responsibility.
