Phone 1398 Markham Farm To Raise Prize Jerseys By Island Standards ‘V The world famous sire, Design's Royal Jester, at 6 year old, twice Champion on Jersey Island, high- lighted a shipment of 41 Jersey cattle which arrived last Thursday at Valleyanna Farms (R. R. No. 1 Markham, Ontario). This importation will form the nucleus of a breeding herd to be raised according to Island stand- ards. It will be the only herd in Canada,‘ operating 100% on this basis. Selection of the cattle from hunâ€" dreds of Island Jerseys was made in October, 1950 by the well known manager of Valleyanna Farms, Mr. Bert McGrath. :Iester’s Royal Maid is partlcul- arly well known in Canada as the dam of the famous show and pro- ducing bull, Brampton Jester Stan‘ dard 2nd. Progeny of Design’s Royal Jes- ter brought this bull the Highest Honour in October 1949 and May 1950. His dam, Design’s Navem- her Nance besides having 3 rec- ords of over 700 lbs. of fat on Jer- sey Island, has three times been Grand Champion; including the OC- taber 1948 and August 194$: and May 1950.
