Grade 1 A delegation from the Yonge St. area discussed the proposal to dl- vide Markham Townshin into wards for municipal election pur- poses with members of council at the last meeting. Reeve Winfred Timbers outlined a proposal which has been under consuleration for a long time. The Reeve pointed out that the proposal was to divide the town- ship into three wards. One ward would include th sure-divided area at the west side of the township, another the area south of No. 7 highway and the third the remain. ing area north of the highway. Delay Action Ward System For Markham Last Thursday, July 5, Button-‘ ville defeated Thornhill 5-2 at Unionville with Jack Rumney pit- ching for the winners. It was very close up to the ï¬fth inning with Thornihill leading 2-1 but! Buttonville came across with 4' runs to win the game and streng-| then their position on top of the league. The ward at the west side would have an approximate population of 3500, and the; other wards 3000 and 2500 respectively. Many questions were asked and there was some doubt expressed by the members of the delegation as to the advisability of going ahead with the proposal. Reeve Timbers and members of council pointed out that the move was be- ing considered as a means of en- suring equality of representation from the various districts, but that the council had no desire to rush the proceedings and were desirous of obtaining all possible informa- tion on the subject and hear.the wishes of the people. It was de- cided to let the matter stand until the council and ratepayers had further opportunity to study all angles of the proposal. Maple & District League The ï¬nal series in this league will start next Monday night. All ï¬ve teams entered in a knock-out tournament last Satur- day in conjunction with the Stouff- ville Horse Show and again Button- ville came out on top of Tnh‘ornhill in the ï¬nal by the close score of 4- 3. In the ï¬rst round Markham beat Peaches, Buttonville won from Claremont and Thornhill drew a bye. The second round resulted in Thornhill winning against Mark- ham and Buttonville getting a. bye into the ï¬nal. The league play-offs got under- way last week with fourth place Hope beating Elgin Mills 17-16 in Richmond Hill Park and Elia heat- ing Concord 7-3 in the ï¬rst games of the two series. Markham Twp. Softball League Results of last Tuesday’s game are as follows. Buttonville 9, Claremont 3; Thornhill 10, Peaches 6 and Markham won over Union- ville 3-2 at Unionville. Softball New’s Two U.K. ï¬rms are co-operating in a scheme whereby they save 200 gallons of sulphuric acid every week. The ï¬rst ï¬rm uses the acid foz’ etching steel parts of the bi- cycles they manufacture and then send the weakened solution to the second ï¬rm for pickling steel tubes. SERVICES THE MACHINES HE SELLS Buttonville’s win keeps them well out on top of the league and Makham’s win puts them in sec- ond place with Unionville third. STAN TROYER Oak Ridges, Ph.
