Mrs. George Jarrett of Toronto is spending two weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Arnold Rumble and Mr. Rumble and Ray. Markham Township’s storage building just north of Municipal Offices took fire at 9.15 pm. on Fri- day, July 13th, with several pieces of machinery being damaged. Township Assessor J. A. Fleming and Albert Reesor noticed the fire at the time of starting, with the result that the Agincourt Fire Bri- gade, contacted immediately, was able to control the fire from the start. Maple United Church Sunday School was favored with 'beautiful ful day for their annual picnic to Alcona Beach‘ on Saturday, July 14. A chartered bus together with four cars were full of enthusiastic picnickers. There were 84 in at- tendance. At’ 1 pm. a bountiful lunch was served, after which then: was a swimming period. By 3.30 pm. all were ready for a program of games and novelty races. Those helping with this part of the day's outing were Mrs. Neil Woods, Mrs. Jack Rumble, Mrs. Lloyd Kerswill, Rev. P. J. Lambert, Norman Lund and Lester Downing. Orangemen r Locval Orangemen celebrated the glorious twelfth at Georgetown. They are members of Empire B.A., Richmond Hill and the ladles of this lodge won for the second successive year the cup for the best ladies lodge on parade. United Church Mrs. Sidney Steventon won the ladies novelty race and team led by Mrs. Frances Reid won the Scaveneger hunt. Isobell Leece Bolton with Mr Davidson. Pupils of Mrs. Roy Clegg suc- cessful in passing their exams at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, were to Grade 2. Donald Lambert passed; to Grade 4 honâ€" ors, Marian Bishop; to Grade 5, passed, Patricia‘Lund and Isobelle Leece; to Grade 7, George Bishop. Supper was served at 5 p.m. One of the features of the day was the hearty community singing which made the bus journey very enjoy- able. Your correspondent had the pleasure of attending the closing exercises of the Vacation Bible School at Concord School house under the excellent leadership of the girls of the Brethren In Christ Church, Vaughan. The schoolroom was filled to capacity. Fifty child- ren attended and the nightly at. tendance was never under 45. Gret- ta\and Robert Middleton attended most of the classes. These classes were supervised by Miss Elizabeth Rosenburger of Souderton, Penn., U.S.A. Miss Rosenburger led in the singing of the various groups and also gave a helpful talk to the children and parents too with a very interesting illustration. Miss Anna Steckley of Gormley who is a returned missionary from India. gave a very heart touching and interesting talk on the famine in India and the distress of the poorer classes. She said there are two distinct classes, the very xich and the very poor. An offering was taken to send toward help for India. The Brown’s Corners picnic was an outstanding success. It was well attended by members and friends and a good time was en- joyed by ’all.
