Sunday School 1.30 and Church Service at 2.30 p.m. There was a good attendance when the Woman’s Association of the Edgeley United Church met on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Clarence Stong. The roll-call was answered by “naming you; favourite chapter of the Bible." Mr. and Mrs. Syd Broadbelt, Mr. and Mrs. John Stanley, Miss Violet Kefier and Allan Bagg enjoyed an excursion ,V on Sunday, July 15, which took them to Niagara r‘a'ls and Buffalo, New York. A point of interest during the trip was a visit to Brock’s monument at Queenston Heights where they as- cended to the top of the monument. They also visited other interesting places before returning home. Mrs. George Field of Victoria and Mrs. Hendry read the Scrip- ture. Mrs. Field gave a very i'n- teresting talk on flhe care 3f cem- eteries and showed pictures of the beautiful cemeteries she had seen in New York. A solo was rendered by Mrs. Taylor and instrumental numbers were played by Mrs. Alf Bagg which were greatly enjoyed by ev- eryone. Mrs. Elmer Stong and Mrs. Jas. Bagg assisted Mrs. Stong in sex- ving a delightful lunch. Mr. JohnrAsh is visiting for two weeks with his son Charles and his family. Mr. Emerson Cooper has return- ed to Grand View, Manitoba, after visiting .friends in this vicinity. Miss Helen Thompson of Hope has secured a position at the"Roy- a1 Bank in Weston and is staying at present with tHe Puterbaugh‘s. One feature of the entertainment was a spelling match, the word given having to be spelled back- wards. This caused a great deal of amusement; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Avery for- merly of Edgeley, now of Bo‘ton, was presented with a purse of money by thé Junior Farmers Club at Vellore on Friday night. The Edgeley Farmers’ Qlub is not holding a meeting in August. A delicious lunch was served by the ladies and a very enjoyable ev- ening brought to a close by 3mg- ing “Blest be the tie that binds.” About thirty members of the Woodbridge Presbyterian Church Choir and C.G.I.T. held a party and shower in Edgeley on Tuesday. July 17 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Dalziel. The party was in honour of Miss Shirley Finder, choir member and assistant C.G.I. T. leader who is in charge of the beginners class .in the Sunday School. She was married to Mr. Morris Baker of Weston on Sat- urday afternoon, July 21. Mr. Baker was formerly the organist and choir leader in Woodbridge Presbyterian Church. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Monday on the lot near Hart's store, where the school to serve the lake is to be built. Mr. Dan Cook who was awarded the contract on Friday night to build a four-room frame school, expects to start at once on the building. It is to be ready as close to September 4, op- ening day of school as is possible. We now have one hundred and eighty children registered. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Scutt, Galport, Hampshire, a' sister and brother- in-law of Mrs. Al. Holdsworth, ar- rived on Saturday with their two small sons to make their home in Canada. They travelled on the Samaria, which 'docked at Quebec: Mr. Scutt was with the Naval Dock Yards, he spent some years in South Africa during the war. They hlve taken a house at the Lake for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Ash and Mr. A. Ross and baby daughter, all of Foxboro spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ash. Mr. Alfred Patchell, chairman of the school board for S. S. 13, turn- ed the first sod for the new school Monday afternoon. Present were the architect, Mr. Hornet, Mr. Mac- Kiliop, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. McCar- ron, Mr. McIvor, Mr. and Mrs. Len. Harnden, Mr. and Mrs. D. Cook, who has the contract, and Mrs. Glady Cross, the new principal. No doubt there are others whose names were overlooked; the board is sorry that there was not time to post notices of this important event but as you all know, speed is of the _eSsence, and Mr. Cook was anxious not to waste any time waiting for ceremonies. There will be plenty of time as the work progresses, and the building is opened formally, to let everybody know. Mrs. Cross has her own movie camera and started a coloured history of our school on Monday. There is a great ifeeling of satisfaction that a job llong planned has been well begun. The swimming meet held at Ash’s Beach, Lake Wilcox, Sunday morning, through the kindness of Mrs. Percy Ash, under the auspices of the recreation committee of the Ratepayers Association, was en- joyed by all who got up in time to take part in the events or watch it from the shore. The following prize winners received their cups and medals at the concert on Sun- day night, in the community hall, Mr. George Gourley, who had charge of the events, presented the prizes. Last week while busily engaged in helping their aunt make jam, the parawax caught fire, rap- idly spread to the curtains, and small Brian Butler was quickly res- cued from the centre of the room. Miss Love is spending sometime this week with her brother near Hamilton, before returning to The Connaught Laboratory where She has charge of a department. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lynn and their four daughters are receiving con- gratulations on the birth of a son. Mr. Lynn is a member of the school board for S. S. 13. Mr. Ivor Williams was rushed to Yérk County Hospital Monday morning for an emergency opera- tion'for appendicitis. Mrs. Williams (Helen Dion) reports that he is improving. Miss Marion Nichols is attend- ing camp at Lake Simcoe. V Mrs. Amelius Jarvis spent a week recently with Mrs. T. H. Wood in Oakville. We are pleased to see that Mrs. V. Westbrooke is able to be home from the hospital. We hope she will continue to improve in health.
