Puterbaugh and family, also calling to see their niece, Mrs. W. Bowen. On Friday evening of last week Mrs. Clarence Stong opened her home to about 28 guests who gath- ered to shower Mr. and-Mrs. Don- ald Elliott with miscellaneous gifts and good wishes for their future happiness. Mrs. Elliott was the former Miss Margaret Pearl Berst, daughter of Mr. and ‘Mrs. George Berst of Woodstock and Mr. Elliott is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas E1- liott of Toronto. They were mar- ried in the Knox Presbyterian manse, Woodstock, on Saturday, August 4, by Rev. George Lees Douglas. Their attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Lesley Rockett. The happy couple spent their honeymoon in Huntsville, later re- turning to Edgeley where they will make their home. Plans for the 1951 (Nntral Area Convention of Women’s Institutes of Ontario slated for November 5, 6, and 7 at the Royal York Hotel, Toronto, have now been completed. Guest speakers at the conVention will include Mrs. R. G. Purcell, Dr. Charlotte Whitton, Dr. J. Hitch- manova, Dr. H. Phillips, M. P. for Grey County and Mr. Don Fair- burn. Delegates to represent the Edge- ley Branch at the convention will likely be chosen at the October meeting. Mrs. Douglas Elliott spent Fri- day evening as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stong. Mrs. E1- liott came from Toronto to attend the shower given for her son and his wife and to have a_ pleasan visit with them. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Stong had as their dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dyball and their son, Douglas. The pie and ice-cream social} held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. Jennings was well attend- ed by members of the community. Games were conducted by Mrs. M. McClure for the children and a guessing contest by Miss Margar- et Beynon in which everyone took part. Everyone was entertained by the antics of the chidren and afipreciated the efforts of those )‘who planned the sports. The ev- enings pleasure was climaxed with £3 most delicious repast of pie and iiceâ€"cream. The cheque which the ‘W.A. forwarded to the building fund from the. evenings social was $26.60. ' ’ ' A geranium of great beauty has been grown by Miss Margaret Beynon. This unique flower has no less than fifty beautiful rose coloured blooms' and approximatv ely ninety buds yet to burst into bloom. Margaret is anxious to share the beauty of this flower with anyone who desires to see it so do call at her home if you wish to do so. The deep love and respect with which Mrs R. Folliott was held and the sincere sympathy felt for the family was shown by the large number of people of this commun- ity and elsewhere who attended the funeral on Sunday August 12th.. Miss Pat- ricia Gullett of Welland has been engaged by the school board to be- gin her duties with the opening of school. Miss Gullett just received her certificate from the Normal School where she was a student last year. Mr. J. E. MacNamata and Mrs. Elliott of Brantford are holiday- ing with Mr. and Mrs. W. Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. E. Groves and Marian of Beaverton visited with Mr. and Mrs. F. Hendry on Satur- day evening. The Salada Tea Company is sponsoring a quilt competition in 1952 for Women's Institute mem- bers with prizes totalling $1,655. Competition will be in three pro- gressive stages â€" districts, con- vention areas and province-wide. A $10 prize will be awarded for the best quilt in each of the 109 districts. Quilts will be judged and prizes awarded at the May and June meetings, 1952. Then all prizeâ€"winning quilts at the district level will be submitted for competition in their respective convention areas. Meetings in the 13 areas will take place in Sen tembet, October and November 1952 when first, second and third 'prizes of $15, $10 and $5 will be awarded. The 39 prize-winning quilts in the Convention area will be on display at the annual W.I. board meeting, usually held at the Royal York in November and three pro- vincial prizes of $100, $50 and $25 awarded. \ Miss Joyce McNab of Sebright 'is holidaying with Miss Margaret Hendry. Mr. and Mrs. Harold. Burns of Detroit spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Ewart Burns. Mrs. Burns and Ross returned with them for a holiday. Mr. and Mrs. L. Taylor and family also Mr. and Mrs. Allan Snodden, all of Pefi‘erlaw, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. F. Hendry. ' Both church and Sunday School services are discontinued at the church until September 2nd. It is expected that there will be the grand opening of the church after the repairs have been com- pleted. The painting of the ex- terior has commencad. Mrs. W. Lloyd is now convales- ing at home after a serious oper- ation. Although sbmewhat weak Mrs. Lloyd is improving nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Palin and son visit‘ed with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Henshaw August 5th. Mriand Mrs. F. Boys have re- turned home after a wonderful six weeks vacation in the west. Mr. and Mrs. A. Lloyd of Delhi are visiting in this vicinity during their two weeks holiday. Mr. and Mrs. Howell are spend- ing their vacation visiting with members of their family. Mrs. John Jennings has retur - ed home after spending five week with her son, Wallace and family. The W.A. and W.M.S. will be omitting their regular meeting in August. A. T. Richmond Hill Branch 37-5 was host to Zone E2 meeting held on Wednesday, August 1, in the Leg- ion Hall, 31 Edgar Avenue, Rich- vale. There was I good attend- ance, some 60 Branches being rep- resented. Much interest was shown and business transacted. The prin- ciple topic of discussion was the coming Seventeenth Biennial Con- vention of the Ontario Provincial Command, August 19-22, at Corn- wall, Ont. Local branch 375 will be represented by an accredited delegate 'from Willowdale Branch 66, Comrade George Stephenson. Apart from the business session of the convention a very extensive program of sports and entertain- ment has been arranged for. Honour guest will be the Hon. Ray Lawson, Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario. Wednesday, September 5, is the date for the next Zone E-2 regular meeting which will be held in New- market when Branch No. 426 will be host and when the newly elected Zone E-Z Commander, Comrade H.
