Henry, Newmarket, broke a tie rod on the Bond Lake curve on Yonge Street. It turned over three times. Passengers in the car were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Worth. Mr. Worth broke several bones in his neck. The rest of the occu- pants escaped injury. Taken to Newmarket Hospital, Mr. Wortn died at seven o’clock Monday morning. His wife, the former Norma Wells, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Wells of Aurora, and a five year old son, Jerry, survive. They have lived for three years in Ash’s Park at Wilcox Lake. The body was taken to Nova Scotia for burial on Tuesday. A brother of Mr. Worth came from Ottawa to accompany Mrs. Worth on her sad journey. ‘Mr. Worth served in the Army for two a‘nd a half years and Mrs. Worth was in the CWAC for three years. Mrs. F. Bevans and Miss Flor- ence Layton spent last week with Mrs. Ovia Hoikka at her summer home at Fumess Falls, Halibut- ton. Mr. Bevans and Mr. Hoikka joined them for the week-end. Elmhurst Cottagers' Associa- tion, Wilcox Lake, had a corn roast on Saturday night, August 25. About one hundred grown-ups and children enjoyed the corn and weiners around the huge bonfire on the beach. Concertina music supplied by Mr. Tom Searle, fath- er of Mrs. Art Barkey, was much enjoyed. Mrs. Fred Saunders entertain- ed several friends at tea on Tues- day, August 21, Mrs. R. Macmtosh, Mrs. J. Temple, Mrs. C. Stephen- son and Miss Anne Stephenson were among those present. Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Cross, Ben- son Ave., Richmond Hill, went through a period of anxiety last week, when. their only son Keith, aged 13, suddenly developed a tem- perature of 105 which lasted for three days. He was taken to The Sick Children’s Hospital by ambu- lance. It took the specialists some days to deter-mine just what the illness was, but finally it wa diag- nosed as Vincent’s Angina (trench mouth) We are glad to report that he is now convalescing at his home, but will not be able to resume his normal activities for some time. Mr. J. R. Cross teaches in Rich- mond Hill High School and Mrs. Cross is the new principal of Lake Wilcox School. Mr. and Mrs Robert Ash visit- ed Mr. and Mrs. Percy Pratt in ‘Collingwood on Sunday. Return- ing home through Orangeville they found the Sunday traffic much lighter than on number eleven highway. Mr. and Mrs. Adam White of Kitchener are guests of Mrs. F. Craggs, Rosemary Avenue, for two weeks. Dr. D. J. Draper, Department of Lands and Forests, Research Stat- ion, Maple, has rented Mr. F. Mc- Ivor’s house at the Lake, formerly occupied by Provincial Constable Robbins. Dr. Draper is a brother of Mr. Victor Draper, Oak Ridges. Miss Lorraine Craig is spending a few days with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Craig.at Rich- mond Hill. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Craig are receiving congratulations on the 'birth of a son, 8 lbs. 3 ozs., on August 23 It Newmarket Hospital, a brother for Lorraine, Linda and Bonnie. Cherney, Lake- land Avenue, entertained all their neighbours at a corn roast on Sat- urday night. Twenty-five or more enjoyed a. delicious feast of corn and red-hots, and a sing-song ar- ound a huge fire. Dr. and Mrs. Leslie Murray, owners of Rock Hall Farm, Oak Ridges, who have been on an ex- tended visit to Dr. Murray’s rela- tives in Jamaica were visiting some thirty miles from Kingston, when the recent hurricane struck that city. Roads were broken up and it was four days before they were able to get in touch with friends in Kingston with whom their small daughter Elizabeth was staying. A great deal of anxiety was felt because it was known that the damage in Kingston was very great. The house next door had the roof torn off, but their daughter was safe. Dr. Murray offered his assistance and he and a nurse were sent to a small town, where for two days they minstered to the injured. ,LJ..._. Provincial Police sent the tow truck from Tulloch’s garage to Wilcox Lake early Tuesday morn- ing, to pull a car, submerged past the engine, out of the lake. It was a. Ford coupe 1949. It had been driven into the lake near the roll- er skating rink. Oak Ridges Home and School is planning its fall activities. The opening meeting Monday, Septem- ber 10, will be an open night, ad~ dressed by Mrs. 0. McClelland, president of York County Council. Miss Shirley Hare of Temperance- ville will sing. On September 19, at the Ridge Inn, a tea and home made baking sale will be held. Miss Anne Stephenson has been granted an Interim Elementary Vocal Music Certificate, by the Om tario Department of Education. This enables her to teach music in the Public Schools of Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bull, and Mr. Dick Bull Jr., spent a week- end in Guelph visiting Mrs. Bull’s mother, Mrs. E. Purvis. They also visited with Mrs. Bull’s sister, Mrs. R. S. Barber and her husband, at their summer home at Port Sev- em. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Clubine of Elgih Mills have rented Mr. S. Bonsonello’s cottage on the North Road, until recently occupied by Mrs. J. Bull and the late Mr. Bull. Mrs. Bull is with her daughter, Miss Mary Bull in Toronto. It is reported today, Tuesday, that King township has hired the H. A. Briggs Company to clean out the culvert on Yonge Street, so that work on the North Road may he proceeded with. ‘ North York Humane Society has arranged a dog polmd at North York Farms, just south of Aurora on Yonge Street. Mrs. Thelma Fielding, Mrs. Lees Owram and Mrs. Tudball, Kennedy Street are the Aurora directors, and will take all calls re lost animals, or com- plaints about neglected ones. An inspector and a truck have been employed part time and all calls will be looked after by him. Al- ready several dogs have been placed in good homes. 'It is planned to have a fund raising campaign 'Mrs. Ronald Macintosh enter- tained the Thursday Club to tea on Tuesday this week. Mrs. J. Temple was also a guest. RICHMOND HILL HOSE The funeral took place August 22 of Mrs. Sarah Plumridge who passed away in her 67th year on Monday, August 20, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. Hunt, John Street. It was a shock to the neighbours, although Mrs. Plumridge had been in ill health for some time. Rev. E. E. Kent, Thornhill United Church, conduct- ed the funeral service at the Nor- man Craig Funeral :arlors, West Toronto. Pallbearers were two brothers of the deceased from Windsor, two sons and two sons- in-law. Interment took place in Prospect cemetery. The late Mrs. Plumridge was the dear mother of Sadie, Gladys, Alfred, Irene, Jack Edith and Kenneth of Toronto, Thornlea and Japan. Mrs. Janet Efiner, Johnson Ave. has spent August holidaying at the YWCA camp at Port Mait- land.
