The boys winning in their event were Gordon Cogï¬ï¬ll, Joe Barton and Gordon Legge. On Wednesday afternoon of last week Riohvale School staged an im- promptu Field Day taking full ad- vantage of the beautiful weather. Among the girls running in the race for Grades 1 and 2 Eileen Cog- hill came in ï¬rst then Kathleen Coghill and Lana Barton. The race for Grades 1 and 2 boys was won by Robert Carr, Rance Marples and Bobby Lewis. Field Day There was a ï¬fty yard dash for the pupils of Grades 3 and 4 and Margo Ball, Patsy Barton and Ruthie Sanders were ahead of the rest in that one, with Richard Stad- tï¬eld, Carman Sargent and Ronnie Durham winning for the boys. Patsy Davenport, Marilyn Tay- lor and Joyce Coghill won the dash fOr Grades 5 and 6 and the boys winning were Gary Stamp and Da- vid Crawford and Billy Baskerville. A piggy-back race gave some tiny members a bumpy ride on their human steeds from the sen- ior room. Jacqueline Einboden riding Louvaine Wood came ï¬rst for the girls, then Marilyn Hud- son riding Norma Turnbull and Donna Snider riding Sheila Sut- cliffe. Peter Gould riding Joe Barton came in ahead for the boys. Second was Paul Sanders riding David Cramford and Freddie Mor- ris riding Jack Burke dame third. One of the high spots of the af- ternoon was the boxing. Gary Blackburn and Larry Fryer boxed two rounds, Gary being declared the “winnalh.†The shoe-toss-and-scramble-for-it race was a lot of fun and David Cramford, Gordon Legge and Not- man Howse won in the boys’ event and Norma Turnbull, Clara Burnes and Sheila Sutcliï¬â€˜e won for the girls. Two girls, Margaret Keating and Norma Turnbull were blindfolded and their performance was hilar- ious. The two littlest boys from Grade 1, Kenneth Guthrie and Bob- by Grainger, quite stole the show with their methodical slow motion bout as they stood up and steadily and alternatively struck each other on the {head with the cumbersome gloves. Altogether it was a most enjoy- able day for everyone. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Beatty re- ceived a pleasant surprise on Sun- day when old friends from Ireland, Mr. and Mrs. James Long from County Fermanagh dropped in to see them. Mr. and Mrs. Long, un- known to the Beattys, have been in Canada about four years and are living in Orillia. They traced their friends through an item in their home paper from Ireland.
