Schomberg Farm Produces Its 2nd World Champion Holstein For the second time within a. year the purebred Holstein herd of Cecil Atkinson and his son Glenn 01 Schomberg, Ont, has produced a World Champion. -The new cham- pion is Elsie Texal who has estab- lished World records for yearly production of milk and butterfat in the junior three-year-old class on twice-a-day milking. Elsie’s official ï¬gures are quoted by the Record of Performance branch of the Dominion Department of Agri- culture, under Whose supervision the record was made, as 25,929 lbs. milk containing 986 l'bs.~ fat, aver- age test 3.80 percent butterfat. Last December her stablemate Orchard Vale Laura Texal established a World Record for milk in the junior two-year-old class of the yearly division on twice-a-day milking by giving 22,005 lbs. milk and 778 lbs. Both champions are the result of artiï¬cial breeding, their dams hav- ing been bred to bulls in the Maple Cattle Breeders Unit. Elsie is a daughter of Lonelm Texal Antony and Laura 3. daughter of Lonelm Texal Ideal, two paternal brothers. fat‘ Antony has 1472 registered proâ€" geny, making him one of the most proliï¬c sire§ in Canada. The winner of the Esso horse- drawn Plowing Championship at last week’s annual King, Vau- ghan Plowing Match was Andrew Watson of Woodbridge, while Nor- man Robson of Maple scored top marks in the E550 tractor-drawn event. King,Vaughan Plowmen Finish Match Despite Heavy Rains Bill Crouch of Newmarket was declared winner of the Eaton Hall cup and Watch while Harry Bewell of Greenbank was winner of the Simpson silverware. The Maple Cattle Breeders As- sociation, 'one of the largest‘arti- ï¬cial breeding units in Canada, held a very successful sale of an- imals sired by Unit bulls at the Oakville Sales Arena on October 23. The 57 head sold brought$27,- 622 for an average of $484. Fif- teen milking females averaged $5'9-2; 23 bred heifers $505; 11 open yearlings $320; and 8 heifer calves $358. Redman, Concord, Ont., to a. neigh‘ bour Wm. Cooper. As Mr. Cooper did not maintain a. purebred herd he was not going to bother having the calf registered when it was born but was persuaded to do so by a friend. Without being reg- istered as a purebred Elsie could not have been placed on official test and so would have missed the opportunity of establishing her World Record. She was purchas- ed by the Atkinsons when just a few months old. Elsie is a persistent milker hav- ing produced very evenly through- out her lactation. On her best day she gave 93 lbs. (37 quarts) and during her best month 2679 lbs. She was fed and milked b) 22 year-old Glenn Atkinson except for a brief two week period when she was cared for by Bill Allison. The former world championships for milk and fat in this class were also held by Canadian Holsteins, the milk champion being Calamity Fayne Piebe, owned by Jas. A. Mcâ€" Kinl'ay, St. Thomas, Ont. with 24,- 090 lbs.: and the fat champion, Lifloc Mata Hari Supreme, bred by Norman W. McConkey, Peterâ€" ‘boro, Ont, with 905 lbs. fat.
