The picture was awarded this month to Mrs. Ritchie’s grade two, whose parents had the highest attendance. Mr. Kurita, grade 1 teacher, gave Home and School Mr. and Mrs, Stan Suter who acted as instructors to the group have had the 11mm of winning prizes for their dancing. Langstaff activities. $50.00 was given to the Langstaff Public School to- wards the purchase of the Televis- ion Set, to be used for education- al and recreational programs, The lcommittee has also loaned the lschool a set of woodworking tools ‘valued at $90.00 to be used by the manual training class, until the in. ception of a community hall, when the :tools will be returned to the recreational commitee for a class in woodworking and arts which will be held in the anticipated community hall in the near future. The Langstaff committee also pur- chased for the boys’ club one med- icine ball, one set of boxing gloves, first aid kit, twenty crests to be given to the boys for ten nights attendance. Material also has been purchased by committee, in which the boys will help fashion arrows and bow staves to be used by the archery club, now under organiz- ation and supeqvised by Mr. Cecil Thirgood, Fairview Ave.. Lang- stafi. At present the interest is ‘being centred around the teen- agers but it is hoped the adults will become interested. Mr. J. A. Fleming. assessor, was introduced by the president, Mr. M. Roy. Mr. Fleming gave an in~ teresting talk outlining the duties of his oflice. A short question period followed. It was moved unanimously that a letter be sent to The Liberal in apprciation of the excellent cover- age given the council meeting on January 7, and requesting further reports of this nature. Mr. John Ansley and Mr, Fred Walton of Kettleby, Ontario, sheep breeders, called on Mr. J. Reid, Garden Ave., last week. Mr. Reid is the farm manager for the Col~ one] Webster Estate, They extend- ed an invitation to attend the Livestock Association Convention being held February 28, at the Royal York, Toronto. East Ratepayers The regular monthly meeting of the Langstafi‘ (East) Ratepay- ers was held at’the school, on Monday, January 14. Minutes of the last meeting were read and ad- opted. The social committee, head- ed by Mrs. A. Mathews, was advis- ed to proceed with plans for a euchre to be held at the school. Please watch this column for fur- ther details. The treasurer, Mr. C. M-asure gave his report. The mem. bership drive mentioned in an earâ€" lier report, has been postponed un~ til weather conditions improve, Vaughan Recreational Centre Mr. and Mrs. G. Madill from Brantford, a niece and nephew of Mr. Holt, were recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. Holt, No. 7 east. Mr. Holt will en- joy a well earned rest when he starts his holidays January 21, A letter from the Thornhill Wo- men’s Institute was read inform- ing the parents of the opening of the new health centre Monday, January 21, conducted by the York County Health Unit. Con- gratulations also to the Glasseys on the occasion of their ninth wed- ding anniversary, January 31. The next regular meeting will be a joint meeting with Thornhill, Thorniea, Langstafl’ and Richvale, on February 21 at 8 o’clock. It will be held in the United Church Hall, Centre St., Thornhill. The asaociation is holding a eu- chre at the White Wheel, Yonge St, on Thursday, January 31, at 8 p.m., to be convened by Mrs. E. Bell and her committee. McLean entertained her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bambridge, also MiSs Barbara Bambridge of Tor- onto. Young Larry, age 3, caus- ed some concern when he fell on the kitchen floor and was knocked unconscious for a moment but was quickly revived when taken out- doors into the fresh air. Then the hydro went off just as Mrs. McLean was about to resume her dinner preparations and the par- tially cooked meal had to be com- pleted on 3 Quebec heater, Then all went well for a-while. Every- one enjoyed the dinner and a game of cards afterwards. But they were in for still another set- back before the evening‘ was over as Mr. Bambridge’s car skidded on the icy road, ended in the ditch, and required towing before he and his family were able to depart for their home in Toronto.
