She received her degree in nurs- ing at the Toronto General Hospiâ€" tal and after spending some months nursing in Toronto went to the Vancouver General Hospital where she spent three months. At pres- ent June is holidaying with her parents prior to leaving for Mon- treal. , Miss June Butt, R.N.. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Butt of Eli- zabeth St., Richmond Hill, will commence her duties as an air hostess with the Trans~Canada Air Lines on January 5. 1953. Rogers. There were new Canadians present from Denmark, Latvia, Austria, Spain and Norway. Mr. Wettleson from Norway operated a sound film pro- jector to show Department of Edu- cation pictures of Canada. Dr. Ovens of Toronto showed pictures of Algonquin Park and of the 1952 Santa Claus parade. Mr. Verweel, talented Dutch musician and com- poser presented several numbers. Mrs. Wettleson assisted by Mrs. Neilsen served coflee and pastries followed by a short period of dan- C1112. Mrs. Ramer .of Markham visited her son Mr. Jonah Ramer and fam- ily recently. Mr. Lloyd Stephenson of Brook‘ lin spent a couple of days visiting his mother ,Mrs. H. Stephenson. We welcome Mr. Waltef‘ Fox who has come to stay at the Trocedero. Cherry Hill Farm Mr. and Mrs. Harold Thorn have moved into their new apartment at the home of Mrs. Robert Stiver. We are sorry to lose Mrs Anderson of Station St. who taken up residence in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Williain Ma'rtin are visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Glenny. The annual ratepayers meeting of Markham S. S. No. 10 will be held in the Unionville Public School on December 30 at 8 p.m. Please note the change of date. Mr. Percy Cooper Was taken to the hospital last week, but we are plgqsed torhear he is improving. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Baggs on the birth of a son at Markham Nursing Home last week. There were 101 present at Cen- tral United Sunday School last Sunday. At the Church service which followed Holy Communion was celebrated and three children were baptized. The following were received as new members in the church, Mr. and Mrs. Kemp, Mrs. H. Scott, Mr. Peter Scott, and Mrs. H. Findlay. Ratepayers’ Meeting Miss Grace Fischer entertained her friends at her home recently following a skating party at the Unionville Arena. Congratulations Through the kindness of the T. Eaton Co. the veterans were able to entertain an audience of about 90 at a full length technicolor pic- ture of the 1952 Santa Claus par- ade on Saturday, December 20. A kiddies’ show of four comedies was also given. The same show was given for the veterans and their families on the following Sunday afternoon, after which Santa Claus arrived and presented the child- ren with gifts. The Junior Farmers will hold a New Year’s party at the veterans’ hall, Unionville, on January 5. This year the campers are plan- ning the entertainment. Veterans’ Association Entertains Mrs. Howard Summerfelt Cashel visited recently with daughter, Mrs. Ina Middleton New Year’s Party The rest of the meeting was for the mothers and children of the Mission Band and the Baby Band. Brown gave a Christmas service from the Miss- ionary Monthly. Mrs. W. Thomas gave ’a reading by Raymond Mc- Donald Alden "Why the Bells Rang.” On Wednesday, December 17, the members of the Thornhill Bowling League held their Christ- mas Bowl at the Willow Bowling Academy. The following were the prize winners: Mens’ high 3 games, Wallaée Elgie, 719; 2nd, Dunc Ball 672; lst High single, Keith Jamieson, 308: 2nd high single, Dave Mizen 247; lst ladies high three games, Heather Mor- rison, 730; ladies 2nd high three games, Kay Reid 668 lst ladies high single game, Rita Hodgson, 256; 2nd ladies high single, Jean Smith, 252.’ Hidden score prize was won by Art Palmer. The next bgwling night will be January 7, 1 53. Highland Park Bowlers had an excellent turn-out for the chicken roll on Wednesday, December 17. ‘The second series of 13 weeks will commence on Wednesday, Janu- ary 7, and it is hoped all those who have been bowling, plus some new- comers will turn out. Those win- ning chickens were: Bob Fisher, Norman Todd. Al Stagg for the men, and Kay Williamson, Mary Nichol and Jean Hopson for the ladies. They had hidden score games with prizes and winners of these were Ivor Francis, Elizabeth Jennings. Flora McMullen. Len Gazey and Janet Gledhill. Ken Minor still held high single flat for men with 312 and Lisa Fleming for ladies with 287. Ivor Francis had 3 high flat of 799, and Kay Williamson for ladies had 594.
