W.M.S. Rural Rally Hears Reports On China & India The W.M.S. Rural Rally of Tor- onto Centre Presbyterial of the United Church was held in the Richmond Hill United Church on Thursday last. A very interesting program was carried out. The pres- ident, Mrs. G. E. K. Howe, assisted by the vice-presidents of the Rural Auxiliaries of Toronto Centre Pres- byterial. Mrs. P. J. Lambert and Mrs. A. E. Agar, had charge of the program. Mrs. W. Hodgson of Ket- tleby had charge of the Worship Service. Greetings from the local societies were given by Mrs. F. Hickson and Mrs. G. Fraser. Others who assisted in the program were Mrs. G. H. Rapsey. Mrs. R. Mc- Lennan and Mrs. S. L. Fear. Mrs. T F. Howlett rendered a delightful solo. The highlight of the morning session was an address by Mrs. H. J. Mullett who spent over 20 years teaching in a university in China. She took as her subject “Two Years under Communist Govern- ment." The highlight of the after- noon session was the address giv- en by Rev. Dr. W. J. Gallagher, secretary of Canadian Council of Churches, who tookflas his subject. THOSE LOCAL SALES Conducting an enquiry into the reason why residents of the Lake- shore area continue to make the trek into Toronto to shop the big stores. The Advertiser of New Toronto came up with this as one of the reasons. “Too often neighâ€" borly service" turns out to be “nosey service”. Therefore. conâ€" tinues the editorial. “To play safe, store proprietors and clerks might be wise to go overboard on the folksey touch." While it was authoritlvely noted. that the quality of the blooms were not up to last years‘ stand- ard, the show as a whole was most colourful. with the different var- ieties of tulips. the gorgeous pan- icles of lilacs which perfumed the Hall, and the artistic arrange- ments of all kinds of flowers. To tiptoe through the tulips. was a pleasant pastime for the members and friends of the local Society, at the Tulip Show, in the Lions Community Hall, last Wed- nesday evening. The display tables were appro- priately decorated in the Corona- tion colours of red, white and blue. which blended beautifully with the various shades of red tulips. R. Hill Horticultural Society Holds Colourful Tulip Show Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Cowan of Pickering. judged the show. and commented briefly upon it. giving beneficial hints to beginners re- garding exhibiting which was well received. Mr. Cowan. speaker for the evening. gave a very informa- tive talk and demonstration on the pruning of fruit trees and the corâ€" rect planting of same. Richvale Chapel. as it is called, is located on the north side of Oak Avenue, half a block west of Yonge Street (Stop 22). The Chapel which has been built to meet a long growing need throughout the area will have a seating capacity of,well over 200. After many years of attend- ing temporary places of wor- ship in Richvale the boys. girls and adukts of Richvale district will now be able to worship in their new church building. First Service In New Richvale Chapel To Be HeId On June7 The services will be undenom- inational in character and a cordâ€" ial welcome is thus extended to all races and creeds. The preaching and teaching will unquestionably be sound and scriptural with great emphasis on the Holy Scriptures. A sincere attempt will be made to "allow New Testament principles >f gathering and worship. Special speakers will be invited from time to time. Most of the conducting will be done by local help. Final Returns Local Blind Campaign $871.00 has just been announced by Mr. E. G. Brown. District Sup- ervisor. as results oh the current financial campaign in Richmond Hill by The Canadian National In- stitute for the Blind. The drive was conducted by Mrs. Jack Smith and Mrs. J. Koning who have been working as volunteers with the In- stitute for several years. This year's total is the greatest on rec- ord, and will ensure a high standâ€" ard of service to the blind of the district. C.N.I.B. service is designed for the development of the whole per- son, locating employment for those who are suitable. assisting houseâ€" wives to carry on their regular duties. and providing recreations to ease the burden of blindness.
