J. JOHNSTON Joseph Cowie of Elgin Mills, who was following the two cars in- volved up Yonge St., chased the hit and run car at a speed of 90 miles an hour and managed to get the license number, which he re- ported to PC. John Hutchinson of the Thornhill Police. Mrs. Gourley was treated at the scene of the accident by Dr. Wynne of Richmond Hill before being re- moved to Newmarket Hospital by ambulance. Bereavement Deepest sympathy is extended to Mr. Oscar Wrigglesworth and family on the death of his mother, Harold Nesbitt, Aurora, was later charged with dangerous driv- ing, failing to remain at the scene ff an accident, and careless driv- ng. Mrs. George Gourley, Lake Wil- cox, suffered severe injuries to her left hip, left wrist and head, when the car driven by her hus- band was cut off on No. 11 High- way, at the Elgin sideroad, last Friday night, by a hit and run driver. Even strangers joined in the search with neighbours and police and Mr. and Mrs. Babineau said, “We are very grateful for the wonderful help they gave." Hit And Run Victim The Milne home on Regent St., was searched four different times during the anxious hours but there was no sign of the little girl. Finally her mother said to look there just once more. Her father found her fast asleep on her cous- in Debbie's bed. with a big doll lying beside her. Mrs. Bablneau said Jeannie must have arrived at her own home just after the family started on their search, not finding anyone around they thought she must have gone off on her own to look for them. Unable to find their little girl, the frantic parents called in the Vaughan Twp. police who searched the adjoining houses and fields for three hours before Jeannie was discovered . safe and sound . . at the home of her aunt on Regent St. Jeannie, two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Babineau, Oxford St., Elgin Mills, was the object of a wide search in the Regent and Oxford street districts last Friday night when she failed to show up at her 7:30 bed.tlme. More parents and friends came out to last week’s game and the ball players really enjoyed the sup- port they gave them. The first four games won by the Orioles were played earlier in the season and the fifth game played by the two teams was a tie. The Sabers really enjoy these games with the Orioles as they are such good sports. Whether or not it was the new name (although the boys attribute their success to the good coaching of Jack Barry and Harv. Baker Sn), the Saber’s rocketed to new heights last Wednesday night when they won their first game - out of six played against the Orange Home Oriole's - with a score of 16 to 4. Buttermilk Falls, at Hall's Lake. about 14 miles north of Minden is really lovely. especially if one ex- plores the path down beside the falls to Lake Boshkung; about seven miles north of the Falls there is a veritable fisherman's paradise at the Narrows of Kushog Lake. Here one will find a place of peace and beauty where high, pine-covered hills encircle both the lake and the highway. Jeï¬ferson Baseball News The Jefferson J’s have chosen a new name for their ball team and will now be known as the Summit Sabers. For those of our readers who are always looking for “beauty spots†not too far from home we recommend a trip to Caesarea on the south-east side of Lake Scu- gog. This is a lovely place for both children and grown-ups to swim. The Robertson family spent several days last week in, around and on the Kawartha Lakes, swim- ming, motoring and boating. Mrs. Harry Pridham’s sister, Mrs. Robert Baker and her hus- band and three children have re- turned to their home in Ottawa after a week’s visit at the Pridham home in Elgin Mills. While up this way they attended a re-union of Mr. Baker’s family at Gormley. Mr. and Mrs. George Blanch and son Billy of Carlton Place, Ottawa stopped off to see Mr. and Mrs. E. Sprague, Elgin Mills, last Monday on their way to London, Ontario. ' Accompanied by her son Roy and his wife, Mrs. McPherson drove up from Nova Scotia early this month and returned home again last Monday. While here, the visitors and the Taggarts made a special trip to Niagara Falls. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Carson of Toronto are ‘spending a week with their son Graham Carson at Jet- ferson. Mrs. Bob Taggart and her 315. ter, Mrs. Dan McPherson, enjoyed a very happy re-union at the Tag- gart home on Regent St., Elgln Mills, during the past three weeks. It is several years since the two sisters have seen one another. The Jefferson School Commun- ltty Club will hold its regular “ladies’ night†next Wednesday, July 29 at 8:30 pm. at the home of Mrs. E. Ray Jackson, Marlday Farm, Elgin Mills. Through the kindness of Mr. J. A. Copeland, who drove some of the boys in his car, the party of eleven all told had a most enjoy. able tour of the whole Museum. After their tour they consumed ice cream and soft drinks in the Museum snack-bar then motored back home again around five o’clock. The Indian exhibit’ and the many varieties of stuffed animals arous- ed the most interest with the boys but they enjoyed everything they saw or heard about. Accompanied by their AkeLa, Cub master E. Ensor and their Baloo, Mrs. Ensor, eight of the Jefferson Cubs spent several hours at the Ontario Museum last Sunday afternoon. A cordial invitatiton is extended to all the ladies in this community. Don’t forget your contributions for the Fish Pond and the White Ele- phant table, and do try to attend next Wednesday night. lst Jefl’erson Cub Pack Mr. Tetley delivered a very fine and inspiring sermon based on Wisdom.
