H. Kane Painting Maple, Ont. Frank Gambrill was unable to go off on a holiday while he was postman on RR. 5 King, but now that he has retired he has been away on a very interesting trip. Mr. and Mrs. Gambrill returned to King City recently, after spend- ing the summer sight-seeing. They visited 'Mrs. Gambrill's daughter, son-in-law. and granddaughter. Mr. and Mrs. William Reid and Joan, at Edmonton, where the Reid’s have been living for the past 4 months. With the Reid family, Mr. and Mrs. Gambrill were taken on a sight-seeing tour to Calgary. where they were pres- ent at a rodeo. Then north to Banff and Lake Louise and on to Warburg, Alta., where they stop- ped to visit Mrs. Gambrill’s broth- er, Mr. William Shipton. Mr. Shipton took his guests on several motor trips, which included a day at the oil fields near Warburg. Then Mr. and Mrs. Gambrill went by train to Vancouver. and after a The funeral of Miss Margaret Gray was held on Thursday after- noon from the home of her niece. Mrs. Roy Wilson, Teston, to King City Cemetery for burial. Rev. M. R. Jenkinson officiated at the service. Miss Gray died suddenly at her Toronto home on Tuesday, August 4. She was born in King Township 78 years ago, and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alex Gray. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. W. Walker, Teston, and Mrs. B. Boyd, Hamil- ton, and a brother, William Gray, Weston. William Walker, King City Grill, is a nephew. Sight-Seeing While Rev. M. R. Jenkinson is absent during the coming two Weeks, the services at the United Church, King City, and Teston United Church, will be discontin- ued for the next two Sundays, August 16 and 23. At Lasky United Church there will be three Sun- days without services, which in- cludes the 3 remaining Sundays in August. Rev. Mr. Jenkinson leaves on Friday, this week, for Camp Typp-i-lac, Georgian Bay, where he has been invited to be in charge of the Vesper Services, during the two weeks of absence from his Churches in the district. Camp Typp-iâ€"lac is sponsored by the To- ronto Conference of the United Church, and is a training school in leadership for Young People‘s groups. Late Miss Margaret Gray Miss Agnes Hill, Nobleton, is a popular bride-to-be, and before her wedding on August 15 to Mr. Douglas L. L. Inch, Hamilton, has been the guest of honour at many entertainments. On Saturday af- ternoon, August 8, her mother, Mrs. Albert Hill, was hostess at a trousseau tea for her daughter. The guests were received by Mrs. Hill, the bride-to-be, and Mrs. G. P. Inch, mother of the groom-elect. There were 100 guests at this very happy afternoon, and included in the group of friends were Mrs. T. L. Williams, Mrs. W. Rolling, Mrs. Alfred Gilham, Mrs. W. Boys, Miss Winifred Boys, Mrs. Fred Boys and Miss Marion Boys of King City and surrounding community. The teaâ€" table was prettin arranged with bowls of sweet peas, and was at- tended during the afternoon by Mrs. Stanley Cain, Mrs. Frank Parr, Mrs. Harold Pringle, and 'Mrs. R. M. Lynburner, Hamilton, who poured tea. Local friends en- tertained in Miss Hill’s honour, when a, shower, was held in Noble- ton Community Hall, when 125 people joined to bring their gifts and the good wishes of the com- ‘munity. On July 31, Mrs. William Bailey held a pantry shower'at her“ home in Aurora for Miss Hill. Miss Hill has made many friends in Hamilton, where she has lived for 6 years while attending Normal School, McMaster University, and later while teaching at Queen Vic- toria Public School, inithat city. The staff of the school presented Miss Hill with a salad bowl, and the Home and School Association of the school made the presenta- tion of a tea set to the young teacher. Other presentations made to Miss Hill in Hamilton included a linen shower given by Mrs. John Bowlby; a miscellaneous shower by Mrs. Donald Cooper, and a kitchen shower by Mrs. Fred Fields and Miss Phyllis Trusdale. Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Inch entertained at a dinner party at the Officer’s Club and afterwards at their home in Hamilton, and Mrs. R. M. Lyn- burner was hostess at a tea which was attended by 80 guests. King City United Church Mr. Richard Grew, Commercial Councillor in New Delhi, India, for the Canadian Government, was a visitor in King City last week. Mr. Grew is the brother of Mr. John‘ L. Grew. Miss Mary Thompson, who is superintendent of the Maternity Wing of Civic Hospital, Ottawa, spent the past week with Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Grew. Trousseau Tea Mrs. Eric B: Johnston was in Sault Ste. Marie last week. to at- tend the funeral of her sister-in- law and friend, the late Mrs. R. Leslie Johnston, who passed away on July 28. Commercial Councillor of Lasky United Church met at the home of Mrs. Effie Bath, on Wednesday afternoon. August 5. Mrs. Henderson, who is very in- terested in the United Nations, called attention to many of the similar aims of the W.M.S. and the Christian missionaries to the far east. with the work of the United Nations in trying to raise the standard of living for so many underprivileged people of the world. Mrs. Henderson spoke on serious subjects. adding a few hu- mourous incidents. during her talk she included some references to the publishing of her book, “I Live and Move”, earlier in the year, and told the story of one of her short studies about the ducks who want- ed their freedom. Mrs. Marshall McMurchy summarized the re« maining pages of the study book, so that the new book may be start- ed in September. Laskay W.M.S. Mrs: D. C. Dr. Morris K. Dillane, who for 53 years-has been the physician at .Schomberg, was honoured by the Schomberg community on Sunday afternoon, when over 1,000 people gathered to show their apprecia- ltion of his services to them and the district. With Mrs. Dillane. he shook hands with almost everyone present, and included in.the crowd were children of the 3rd. genera- tion that he had brought into the world. Dr. Dillane has had the privilege of attending to the needs of 5 generations in several families of the district. On behalf of his many friends a gold wrist watch was presented by Mrs. John Lister, and a cheque, with the good wishes of the community, was presented by Mrs. Lloyd Cunningham. Speeches were made by the chair- man of the Honour Day committee, Clarence Marchand; Chief Com- missioner of Schomberg, Robert Moody; Rev. Father Francis Mc- Goey; Reeve Elton J. Armstrong, and Albert Cable. A bouquet of 30 roses was presented to Mrs‘. Dillane by Master Bruce Pearcey, who represented the 3rd. genera- tion of babies attended by Dr. Dillane. A guest book, which held the names of everyone present, was presented by Mrs. E. Cooper. The refreshments were served from long tables, by the ladies of the Horticultural Society, whose president is Mrs. James West. Every family in Schomberg con- tributed their share to the refresh-i ments. Peter Clark Peter Clark. a life time Liberal, and No. 1 Liberal of King City, was waiting at the door when the polls opened. He was the first to vote. Miss Shirley Hill, Nobleton, sister of the bride-to-be, will be maid of honour, and Miss Audrey Inch. Hamilton, sister of the groom-elect, and Miss Phyllis Trusdale also of Hamilton, will be bridesmaids, at the wedding on August 15, of Miss Agnes Jeanne Hill and Mr. Douglas Lyman Lee Inch, Hamilton, at the Anglican Church, Nobleton. The best man will be Mr. George A. C. Simpson, Hamilton. The bride is the daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert H111, Nobleton, and the groom is the son of Lt. C01. and Mrs. C. P. Inch, Hamilton. Mrs. Wilfred Stiles spent a weekend as guest of Mrs. James Brown, at the home of Mrs. Brown’s uncle, Mr. Albert Flintoff, in Whitc’hurch, east of Aurora. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ratcliff have gone to the Gaspe region on a motor trip. Honour By Schomberg A reception was held on Thurs- day evening, August 6, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Carson, when 35 friends were invited to visit with Mrs. E. M. Legge and her daughters, Misses Elsie and Norma Legge. before they move to their new home in Aurora. They have purchased a new house on Dunning Avenue in the neighbour- ing town, and will move there this week. On Thursday evening, Rev. M. R. Jenkinson expressed the re- gret of the friends at the approach- ing departure of Mrs. Legge and her family, and wished them hap- piness in their new life. The gift of an electric clock from their neighbours and friends, was pre- sented to Mrs. Legge by Mrs. Harvey Folliott, as a keepsake from King City. A member of one of the old families of the township, Mrs. Legge came to King City 33 years ago, after having spent the first 13 years of her marriage at Temperanceville. Miss Elsie Legge is a teacher at Aurora Public School. Personals Visitors of Mr. and Mrs. George Chapman at their summer cottage. Port Severn, have been Mr. Chap- man’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Chapman, Maple, and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Chapman, also of Maple. Mrs. M. R. Jenkinson leaves this week to visit her uncle, Mr. Don- ald MacKenzie in Guelph. She will also be the guest of her cous- in, Mrs. Robert Garrbutt, Detroit, who spends her summers at her farm near Guelph. Rev, J. Stewart Ferguson. Scar- boro Bluffs, visited his sister, Mrs. Milton Payne, Aurora recently. While in this vicinity he called upon other relatives, which in- cluded his cousin, Miss Alice Fer- guson, King City, and his nephew, Norman Payne, Hope, and Mrs. Isa «Ferguson, Richmond Hill. Rev. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Coghlll and their family returned on Monday from a week’s holiday at West Lake, in Prince Edward County, where the weather was ideal and the fishing all that could be de- sired. Oak Ridges Phone TU. 4-2465 The condition of Ernie Durie caused grave concern when he suffered a heart attack and had to return home from the vacation he was spending with his family near Lake St. George early last week. There has been considerable im- provement and he is at present in hospital where he will remain for a few weeks until the doctors pro- nounce him able to travel. Mr. and Mrs. Art' Little ahd their son Ronny, from Toronto. have moved into the house formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. McKinnon, on Oak Avenue. The Ratepayers’ Association have been presented with a large paint- ing of Her Majesty, Queen Eliza- beth 2nd. by Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Klinck of Toronto. Mrs. Kllnck is the former Ruth Lane. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lane, of Spruce Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Walter LeClare and Mr. and Mrs. George Franks motored to Fort Erie to attend the reception following the wedding of their nephew, Fred Baskerville to Miss Sylvia Vaile, which took place quietly on Monday of last week. Mrs. M. VanSéyac, from Cali- fornia. was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Walter LeClare for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Peirce left on Saturday by motor for a week’s holiday in Montreal. Richard Stadfield suffered an injury on Saturday when his foot slipped and the heavy blade of a power mower sliced through his running shoe and nicked the small toe, cutting the sheath and expos- ing the tendon. Four stitches were required to close the wound.
