Women's Institute The symxathy of 'the commun- ity is extended to the family of Mr. Robert Carruthers who died Jessie Boyington and Mrs. Gordon Vaughan (Doreen Jones) had a narrow escape last week when they were involved in an accident at Browning and Logan Aves. Toronto. The Boyingion car in.which the girls were trav- elling home was struck at the in- tersection and spun comp'etely around. Both girls got off very lightly, with a few bumps and bruises. At the hospital Doreen was given several x-rays for chest injuries. but both girls were allowed to go home. Wn sincerely hope they have no ill effects. Mr. Robert Carruthers Victor is better known in the Willowdale area. being the son of Mrs. Secrett and the late Rev‘ Secrett, formerly rector of St. George's Anglican Church, Will- owdale. Local Girls In Accident Just two days before he left, President Vargas had committed suicide and anti-North American feeling was running high. Accord- ing to Victor it was unsafe for a nofitherner to smile in the street for fear a Brazilian took offense and shot him. Several North American business houses had their windows shot out. among them those of the Imperial Oil Co. We trust that the political situation had calmed down before his return. Dr. J. T. Sheppard Mr. Victor Secrett of Rio De Janiero, flew here for a few days visit with his mother and sister, Mrs. Wm. Hood. last wek. Mr. Secrettr who had formerly been connectedlwith the RCAF here, joined Pan-American Air- ways in Rio, approximately two years ago, and this was his first trip home in that time.
