Bgs Terngi‘gl- Richmond Hill’s most recent business enterprise had its offic- ial opening on Saturday, March 9, when Mr. and Mrs. Earl In- gram, formerly of Toronto, com- menced business in their new store at 192 Yonge Street North. al, and adjacent to the rapidly developin subdivision area of Richmon Heights, this well stocked store should prove of great beneï¬t to residents of that area. Necessities such as bread, milk, cream, cakes, etc., are carried in stock, in addition to beverages, candy Neilson's ice cream maga- zines and newspapers. gifts and toys and school needs. Council received by mail, a petition for a school at Mussel- man's Lake, said to bear names of 198 ratepayers. A deputation of some 40 persons attended. a number supporting the petition but the larger number made up of ratepayers not now residing in the area. These people occu- pied cottages used in summer months only, and these people were not in attendance at the former meeting ‘and vote of the rfatepayers. Their spokesman not- i ied. Estimated cost is $225,000 and Governament grant would be paid on $160,000 of the above amount. However, the Dept. of Educat- ion pointed out that these grants were in no way a guaranteed ngure from year to year. When Whltchurch Township Council met last week the ï¬rst business was the procedure for future action in the settlement of S. S. No. 11 school problem. Mr. Ingram is thoroughly con- versant with the selection and sale of his various lines of mer- chandise as he was formerly en- gaged in the wholesale distribu- tion of these allied lines for a considerable number of years throughout the Toronto area. Prior to moving from Toronto, the Ingrams have been lifelong members of the Parliament St. United Church, where Mr. In- gram was a Sunday School tea- cher and Superintendent for many years. As new residents, Mr. and Mrs. Ingram are welcome additions to this rapidly growing community of Richmond Hill. Vern Davies and K. Rodgers, members of the Board, were in attendance . Mr. Davies stated that the Board had adertised the meeting in the Stouffville 13 per and posted several notices in on- spicuous places in the area. Oppose Division A :ommunlcation was receiv- ed from Auroa High School Board giving Council data on fu- ture program. Present accommod- ation is 610; present attendance 622. The anticipated attendance by 1961 is 850. The suggested building program when different Councils concerned advise that funds are available would be as follows: 6 classrooms, accommod- ating 180 pupils; 2 labsâ€"60‘ pu- pils; 1 shopâ€"20 pupils; 1 Cloth- ing Roomâ€"20 pupils. Mr. Neil, President of the North Shore Musselman’s’Lake Ratepayers’ Assoc, spoke for the g' oup, stating they “ere not op~ posed to another school being built in the section but were op- poged to a division of the sec- tion. “The petition should have been presented to the local school board, and they in turn could ar- range for a check of same to ver- ify that the necessary 20% had signed and that those signing were all ratepayers. If found sat- isfactory, it would be the duty of the Board to call another meet- ing of the ratepayers and if no agreement was found possible, the meeting could refer the mat- ter to a board of abitration. The meeting would by vote appoint one member, the Board a second while the third would be the local Inspector or his appointee.†Forward Petition A request by Arthur Helson in person for licence to operate a mobile snack bar was laid over for further consideration, as it was suggested a trafï¬c problem might be created. High School Reeve Sid Legge addressed the delegation, stating the petition should have been placed in the heuds of. the Board. He advised that an attitude of give-and-take to the problem would be much now conductive to a satisfactory result. He requested the Clerk to read Sec. 10. Public School Act, setting out procedure, as follows. â€" 1361717171611 instructed the Clerk to mail the petition to the school board for the necessary action.
