In a recent letter from Mr. George Cober who is in Florida, he says he had the privilege of cutting wood while visiting Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Nigh (also Gormley residents) who have bought a home at Intercession City. The lowest temperature was 28° and the frosts had done a lot of harm to the orange and vegetable crop. It had also put hundreds of poor labouring men out of work. l Miss Harris .nd Miss Hutchin- son, both student teachers from the Teachers College, Toronto, were at SS. 7, Markham this past week. On Monday only seven were present in both rooms. At- tendance was greatly affected by the storm. No. 7, Whitchurch school was closed for several days because of the weather and roads Gornley Block Co. was also closed for several days. Those who thought old fash- ioned winters were a thing of the past changed their minds this past week. The severe drifting accompanied by such strong winds blocked a number of roads and caused motorists to leave their cars at the highway, and many others to be absent from their jobs. On Monday and Wed-i nesday there was no local mail‘ delivery as the mail did not arrive from Toronto till late afternoon. Patterson reviewed Study Book chapters in the ab sence of Mrs. H.‘ Steffler. The group was pleased to welcome Mrs. A. F. Binnington to their meeting for the first time. Concluding the formal part of the meeting, a social half hour was enjoyed when tea was served. World Day Of Prayer a trousseau tea for her daughter, and pouring tea in the afternoon were Mrs. Nelson Thompson. aunt of the bride, and Mrs. Reid Brumwell, the groom’s aunt. assisted by Miss Joan Gayman ‘and Mrs. Richard Tribling. In the evening Mrs. Frank Thomp- son and Mrs. Robert McCreanor poured tea assisted by Mrs. Ray Brookfleld and Mrs. Douglas Tribling. Misl Betty Snider of Victoria Square. was the guest of honour at many parties prior to her marriage in Victoria Square Church on Saturday afternoon of last week. Her bridesmaids, Miss Janet Cakes and Mrs. Earl Law ten- tdered a pantry shelf shower and 3a miscellaneous shower. M Percy Snider of Elia entertalne family members at a progressive Euchre and shower. A buffet supper and shower was held at the home of Mrs. Ro ert McNair. Toronto, and Mrs. eid Brum- well and Mrs. Walter Brumwell entertained at the home of the former assisted by Mrs. Dean Brumwell. Mrs. Richard Trlbling, Mrs. John Brumwell and Miss Margaret Wigmore. Victoria Square community held a shower at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art Buchanan. On Tuesday evening they catered at Buttonville Hall when Markham Township Council entertained at a dinner {or school board mem- bers throughout the Township. Such was the weather on this occasion that only a little more than a third of those invited were able to navigate the roads to attend. On Friday evening. when the local Progressive Conâ€" servative Ass'n held a dinner, the weather was more favourable, and the ladies served approx- imately 140 guests. Recent guests at Braedoon Farm, home of Mrs. S. J. English, were Mr. and Mrs. Ken Gray of Kirkland Lake, Margaret Gray, a student at Branksome Hall. and her school friend, Marian Luca of Caracus.
